A Unique Sunbonnet Sue
Learn more about this unusually arranged Sunbonnet Sue quilt that was donated to the museum by Sandra Archer.
Notice how the maker used embroidery on a variety of printed fabrics for “Sue’s” attire. Unfortunately, the maker of this unique quilt is unknown. Sunbonnet Sue appliqués were often made as one to a block, separated by sashing. This arrangement makes them look as if they are all marching in one direction. At first, I thought this was a unique layout, but I have found another example on the Internet, so it was most likely a pattern.
