The Quilt Show's annual, and exclusive, Block Of the Month for 2024 is Jen Kingwell's Pick a Petal. And as with each previous BOM, Barbara Black will be joining you on the journey each month to help you create this celebration of Spring and make it an heirloom quilt you will treasure. Barbara has made the quilt and knows the tips and tricks to get it done right the first time. This month she will focus on the introductory pattern and the resources you'll need to succeed.

If I use 60weight thread on the top and 80 weight in the bottom. I have been told before that 80 weight thread can damage my machine. I have a BERNINA 790. Is there adjustments I need to know about

I have used the 80 weight with no problems on my 770.

I received my fabric kit and templates for Pick a Petal. I have made some practice blocks based on photo. I noticed on Jen's quilt the elongated nine patch blocks all have a dark center square surrounded by light fabrics and then dark corners. I...

I received my fabric kit and templates for Pick a Petal. I have made some practice blocks based on photo. I noticed on Jen's quilt the elongated nine patch blocks all have a dark center square surrounded by light fabrics and then dark corners. I also noticed the other blocks have light backgrounds creating a secondary design look. I am sewing my blocks by hand using the registration dots from the templates. It is like meditation. I would not be able to do these blocks by machine. I am starching all fabrics to make it easy to mark dots and seams.
