Portal Quilt Lessons
Ricky's Portal quilt is made from a single repeating "Lady Finger" shape. A multitude of designs can be created by changing the placement of the colors and the tilt of the single seam in each unit.
If you are into jelly rolls, this pattern maximizes the fabric and yields minimal fabric waste. The quilt measures 72" x 79".
Ricky says,
"Historically, one-shape quilts have always been popular. Quilts with same-size squares, like Trip Around the World, would be the most common. The Apple Core shape has fun interlocking curves, and the trapezoidal Tumbler shape is time tested and true. The seed that sprouted this quilt’s particular shape came from my pondering ideas that would use jelly rolls—the pre-cut strip bundles that many quilters enjoy using. Most ideas are born from the questions, “What would happen if…?” Exploring the answers led me to the creation of Portal."
