Chinese Lantern Project Box - Lesson 01 - Getting Started
This is the structure of the Chinese Lantern Project Box. You'll learn how to crochet around the edges for joining them together, how to make the lining of the box, and to set up for the freeform embroidery, crochet and knitting we will be doing in the next lesson. You'll need rug hooking canvas, Peltex interfacing, scraps of batting, coordinating fabric scraps, and worsted weight yarn.
Chinese Lantern Project Box - Lesson 02 - Freeform Crochet
In this lesson, you'll cut the hole through all layers for the yarn pull, work on freeform crochet and a bit of knitting and embroidery. You'll learn how to add beads to simple crochet, increase and decrease in knitting, lazy daisy, stem and fishbone stitch, and to attach the motifs to the background.
Chinese Lantern Project Box - Lesson 03 - Embroidered Mandala
In this video you'll use simple embroidery stitches with threads, yarns, and beads to build on and create this 5.5" mandala. Use the square for your project box, a quilt block, a wall hanging or a page in your textile journal and enjoy the simplicity and relaxation of hand stitching.

In this video you'll finish up the crocheted mandala and attach it to a box side and then add beads and a bit of stitching. In the next lesson, you'lll make a fabric crazy patch/needle appliqué butterfly. At the end of the video, I'll show you how to draw out your simple pattern.
Chinese Lantern Project Box - Lesson 06 - Crazy Patch Butterfly
In this video you'll learn how to very simply turn the edges of appliqué pieces with a postcard and an iron, and then stitch them to the background to create a patchwork butterfly. You'll then stitch on each seam with various yarns and threads to transform him into a crazy patch square.

Learn how to line the box, hand stitch the pockets, put the box together and crochet the top netting. Ann demonstrates a few handle options as well.
