Museum Quilt Used for Study
The American Quilt Study Group has a program in which members study antique quilts by reproducing them in wall-hanging size or by using the original quilt as inspiration. Through this process, participants learn about quilting techniques of the past.
The focus of the most recent quilt study was Quiltmakers and Designers: 1945 to 1979. For this project, participants selected a quilt made between 1945 and 1979 and reproduced it to explore the techniques used by quilters of that era.
Tammy Mendl of Abilene, Texas, chose the Flower Girls Quilt from the collection at the Museum at Texas Tech University for her study. Ms. Mendl conducted extensive research on the family who made and donated the quilt to the museum.
