Carole your quilt is fabulous! I love the butterfly border after the triangle in a square border and your pieced green border is great too. I might do that with mine too if I have enough greens left. Love the hedgehogs on the back and that star in the middle is wonderful and a great way to use up some of the leftover scraps.

Your quilt is beautiful, Carole. I love the bright colors in these quilts. The backing fabric is over the top

Thanks, everybody. I know that the hedgehogs are kind of silly, but I think quilts should be fun and I couldn't believe how well the colors matched. I think I'm still a kid at heart, anyway! Here's a close-up of the center of the backing.

I don't find it silly. Maybe I'm as much a child at heart as you . They are cute

I've got permission to go and buy quilting fabric! - goes & faints quietly in the corner

DH has said, why don't I make us some bed covers like those he likes in the Cabela's catelogues , here http://www.cabelas.com/product/Timbe...mp;Ntt=bedding or here http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabel...mp;Ntt=bedding

He would like pictures, rather than what I have done so far, because he says that although 'they are very good, they are just exercises in geometry....' but I prefer sewing geometry to applique :P
Besides I am not sure that I have a blanket stitch on my machine & I don't like plain zig-zag

The only thing is, I have to work out the design, before I can go on my spending spree - dang!

                          Nothing wrong with geometry.

You could always needle turn applique! Or use the technique that Alex teaches. Do you have a invisible hem stitch...or what ever it is that she uses.

Pick some stitch that you do have and use it. Break out of the box. Which show teaches using a ECG type stitch--essentially freehand squiggly line. It would look like fur on some of those furry critters.

What color way are you going with?

Probably camo green & tan   but I can add in some golden retriever yellows for Pistol. And if I add in us in our canoe, a small splash of bright pink for Izzy's hat & handle of her paddle 8)

Guess I had better stitch out a stitch sampler of all the stitches I do have on my machine - it has only taken me about 18-19 years to get around to it

What fun Rosemary. A stitch bible is a great way to start. You might be surprised at some of the stitches you can do as alternatives to blanket stitch. It sounds like you have your colours sorted out so it's design and quantity of fabrics next. I will look forward to seeing your progress on this one.

The EKG stitch is something that Patsy Thompson does. I believe it's in the classroom.
