So funny!! We raise chickens, but not in the house. It is hard enough to keep the house half way clean. The only chicken I named was a mean rooster that I had to carry a broom when I went outside. His name was Dumpling. It was a threat to him. No, we did not do it, but we gave him away to friends whose chickens are farther from their back door. He lived a long and happy life with them.

Wendy, I you had been attacked by this rooster, you might called him Dumpling too. I really did carry a broom or stick when I went into the back yard. He was a beautiful bird though. That's why we gave him away. It wasn't safe for the grandkids either. Now we have some Buff Orpingtons and red Plymouth Rocks. This spring we bought 8 Bantam chicks. We ended up with 6 roosters, and 2 hens. We will keep the hens and 2 or 3 of the roosters. We know someone who will take the other roosters. Some of them are really pretty. We have the chickens for the eggs, not the meat. I buy that at the store. We also have Black Angus cattle. We still buy our meat at the market too. The calves are sold to others to finish raising. I feel better about eating store bought meat because I don't have to see them as cute little babies.
I wouldn't mind some goats or sheep, but then I would have all this milk I wouldn't know what to do with or eat them. I don't drink milk, but love ice cream  Years ago, we had a Jersey milk cow. We had to sell the milk to neighbors, because we had so much. I still had 4 kids at home then! No, I will just stick with the chickens.

The trouble with wild rabbits are that they are vermin for the farmers. They will decimate crops down to the earth and the female rabbit is able to reproduce at 6 weeks old, will have a litter of 6-8 and will be able to have a second litter 6 weeks after the first, and so on and so on.... that is why they are such a good meat crop - because they breed so rapidly. I wouldn't advocate eating someone's pet (except in jest) but wild ones are fair game if they can be had, besides they are probably naturally organic too :wink:Originally posted by crocus999Well, Wendy as they say 'different strokes for different folks'.
I sure would call a dumpling a rooster..oh, I mean a rooster a dumpling. But I sure wouldn't put cute, fluffy, sweet bunnies in a crust
A good name for a sheep would surely be Mint Sauce

Keep munching the bunnies Rosemary and leave the roosters be.
Cathy I know the cockerals can be wicked one took a lump from my friends leg with his spurs, he got his cards. They are beautiful though and I love watching them looking after their ladies, showing them treats and protecting them.
I haven't got a boy due to where I live but I have got a buff orp bantom, I love orps, lovely characters. My others are wyandottes, pekin and a hybrid. I recently lost my lovely red hen called Pigeon, she was such a gem, ruled the roost and was pretty horrid to the others at times but she was so friendly with me and would do an agility course.
You made me laugh having a jersey cow but not drinking milk
I don't eat many eggs either  Bad luck getting 6 boys out of 8.

I just remembered I hadn't posted my ideas from inspiration quilt no 700. I was thinking of doing a huge 9patch on point and then for the centre square put in another 9patch, and for that one's centre square I would put in another 9patch etc, etc until the pieces got so small they were just silly sizes (or I got bored dividing the measurement up into 3s - which ever came first  )
Any body else got any ideas for what they might do? and suggestions for the next quilt to draw upon for inspiration.

I forgot about it too. But this was my immediate reaction at the time and again when I just looked at it. I thought of pumpkins because of the autumn colours. So what I would do would be 9 squares on-point with a pumpkin in each one with a border of autumn leaves.
Here is my suggestion for next week:
