It works best if you print out the directions and follow them one step at a time!

If you want to do a color thing with them, you might try something like I did with the flying geese units in the 2009 BOM Stars for a New Day.
If you click on the photo twice you can see a larger image:
Maybe I play with my lattice blocks when I finish them and see how it looks best. I do like graduated look, flowing colours.

Here is my block with my mitered border added. It is the very first mitered border that I have ever put on a quilt block. Yippy!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P I spent several hours today sewing the blocks for the lattice border. I have them all finished now....so I will start putting them together tomorrow and square them up.

Looks great Janice! Thanks for the picture! Be sure to add it to the Show & Tell page when you get your lattice attached! see-quilts/show-and-tell-quilts/

When I attempted to miter the slat borders I had difficulty with slats coming out at right angles, they did not line up. The directions told me to start and end the seam 1/4 inch from the edge of the quilt center. That means at the "corners" of the square center, right? When I folded the fabric under to form the 45 degree angle I made a mess of things. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong? The corners of your quilt look perfect, Janice.

Margo,
I decided to replace the slats border with one fabric. How wide should the strip be to equal the slats and the two pinks that border the slats. In your Month Two instructions, you use a 1-7/8 strip, but when I add the three borders together I get a different size. I blame that on my math handicap. Thanks for all your help and all that you do for the quilting world.

I don't do math well either! I got my measurement by assembling my lattice borders first, and determined the width of the inner floater/border according to the size of the lattice.
Here are Sue's directions (paraphrased from our 2009 BOM) about how to determine the width of a floater:
How do you do the math? Take the length of the inside unit and subtract it from the length of the outer
unit. Divide that number in half for the width of your floater. But don’t forget that when you cut the
fabric, you will always need to add two quarter-inch seam allowances (i.e., a 1/2 inch; this
includes a quarter-inch seam allowance on both sides of the floater strip).
So.... you will need to know the dimension of your lattice border to determine the width of your floaters.
Hope that helps.

For the first month, Margo gave instructions for Fabrics to pre-cut for later months, aka chunky cuts. Can these also be applied to Sue's version? If so, what are the comparable colors for Sue's quilt. I understand the background, and the L1 Dark Pink Dots say they replace Sue's G1 in the pieced swag border....but the other 3 colors: Y2 Subtle Yellow stripe, G3 Dark Green Dots, and Y1 Light Green Dots do not give comparisions to Sue's fabrics. :? Are there comparisons :?: ...or are the Y2, G3 and Y1 the same :?:
Hope what I just said above makes sense. I'm working on two other quilts for our local guild, one of which is another BOM. The instructions are starting to intermix with each other....along with making all the HSTs. Hmmmm....maybe mixing them all up could produce an interesting looking quilt...
