New Bernina

There's a lot of buzz going on about the new Bernina coming out. Dealers have been informed and it should be introduced this summer. It sounds great. I understand there should be a video about it coming out on the nineteenth. Hope this is accurate! It sounds like it's going to have really great features! Can't wait.
(It will be called the 830)

Is there any word on whether it will have a wider harp?

Rumor has it that it definitely will have have a larger harp and 40 new features many unique to Bernina. The new machine is coming out. My dealer has confirmed it. It will be introduced to the dealers at the July BU and then to the public.
I really don't know particulars other than it's the 830.

I don't suppose anyone knows that this machine is going to retail for? Anyone care to guestimate?

If it includes the embroidery module, I'm thinking the 5-6K range. But who knows. I know that I can't afford it and I'm pretty happy with my 440QE - without embroidery.

Well, the new Viking machine was just unveiled and its price tag is $8999. Whew...these prices on sewing machines are getting way up there! I would think that the Bernina might be more or at least as much as the Viking machine.

I have an OLD Bernina 830 from 1972!

Funny they chose the same name.

Mmmm... I'm betting closer to the $9k-$12k range.

I won't be able to afford a machine like that, and I'm not even sure that I would want one. I often see quilters struggle in workshops with their complex machines. I rather use a basic one and get things done.

One of my friends commented yesterday that the way the prices for top of the range domestic machines are going we will soon have to make a decision to either buy the domestic machine or a longarm (or a new car).

By the way, Husqvarna is also bringing out a top of the range new machine, also with a wider than average throat, also with all sorts of embroidery bells and whistles, also in July. Should be interesting to compare the two machines.

Ruby - I just got my new 730 less than a year ago and I can't imagine how much more they could do! Just love this new machine - although I was lucky enough to keep my 165 for piecing and garment construction. I'm interested in seeing the new machine, but can't imagine there'd be enough to make me change from this great new Queen - to say nothing of not being able to afford to! Hope you continue to enjoy your 730 as much as I do!

Karen, I really love my "Queen"....Went to class yesterday and of course when you turn it on, you know it is there by the sound it makes. The shop owner said, "The Queen has arrived"..Just love it. I, too, did garment sewing and some quilting. Love all kinds of crafts...Raised 4 kids by myself for a few years and did not have money for new clothes all the time. I would take apart the shirt waist dresses. you know the ones with two yards of fabric in the skirt. and make summer clothes for the kids. They had new clothes, just like everyone else. also clothes for their dolls. Have a great sewing/quilting day...Ruby in Fallbrook CA

Is the 730 known as the Queen? Or are you ladies just very happy with yours?

The 200 & 730 have a distinctive tune that plays when you turn it on. It sounds like the tune that used to play for a butter commercial years ago. I can't remember the brand of butter/margarine but the person would taste the buttered bread and "POOF" this tune played and there was a queen's crown that appeared on their head. I think it is the same tune. There are various other "bells & whistles" that can individually be turned off or altered, if desired. However, that tune stays unless you turn off the audio altogether.

Wonder what the new 830 song will be?
