It's ENORMOUS. Here are the vital stats, for anyone (besides me) who's interested:

Length without embroidery unit = 20 inches
Length with embroidery unit = 42 inches
Depth (front to back) = 8.5 inches
Height of bed = 4 inches
Weight without embroidery module = 43 pounds

I was told the machine alone was $12,000, and that the frame was another $2,199. When I said someone on this forum had bought both for $12,000, the dealer looked at me askance. So you must have negotiated a good deal, Darlene!

Anne - In some of my discussions with my LQS, I think there is the opportunity to go below the $12K. I am pretty sure that the dealers do have a "floor" price set by Bernina that they cannot go below, but I have asked around enough that I know they can go below the $12K. I have decided (for the time being) that my 730 has not prevented me from accomplishing anything that I have wanted to do, so I will stick with it. I can see in the future making the 830 purchase after savings my pennies - and if I win the lottery, that will be my first purchase the very next day! Mary Kay

You will have to promise to take many, many photos when you get your machine so we can all vicariously enjoy your purchase!

I am also thinking that one of the new machines need to live at my house! I work part time at my local Bernina shop and my boss has asked me to go with her to Bernina training in Nov. to get that first hand knowledge about the machine! The great thing about teaching quilting is that I can justify buying the new machine! My only question I am debating is if I should get the 830 with the embroidery or wait for the 820 without. I really don't do much embroidery with my 200 so am thinking I could do without it on the new machine. Plus I am going to have to keep my 200 so I can have a machine to travel with. I know I will not want to lug the bigger machine to classes. But can I wait for the 820? LOL

        Happy Quilting,

Are all the measurements the same between the 830 and the 820? For some reason, I was thinking (maybe I heard somewhere) that the 820 is not quite as big as the 830..... something to consider, even though you don't want the embroidary option. Mary Kay

I went up to my dealer's today and there in all it's glory was the new 830. It's much more impressive in "person". I actually reached over and touched it. It's extremely user friendly and just beautiful. But there's no denying that it's not in my budget at this time. I even asked if they'd take my car as trade in!
Bernina is being very picky with this machine. You have to put five thousand down and it's non refundable!
Maybe some day....... if I'm very, very good.....

I tell myself I'm letting them find and fix all the bugs while I save for the new one...maybe sometime in the next decade! LOL. Oh well, I really like my current setup (upgraded 700 to 730). Cheers all, Betty Jo
