    Hello Majack

nice to hear from someone closeby, I'm just over the Humber bridge in East Yorkshire so if you hear of any exhibitions &/or shops worth a visit I'd love to hear from you. As it is I am probably on your route to York for the Quilt Museum.

We keep having strange things to do with birds happen around here.

I've just put one of the pictures I took of him in the album. It's a shame we can't post direct into a thread. Now tell me you don't love that blue!!!

The good news: You can post pictures directly into a thread.
The bad news: I have forgotten how to.

I had no idea that Britain had wild peacocks!

And you are right about that gorgeous blue!!

                Hi PosyP and peacock lovers,

Does the peacock visit you often Amoret? I agree about the colour, yummy.

PosyP, do you suffer from the same in East Yorkshire as we do in Lincolnshire - one decent shop in the whole county and that is on the Nottinghamshire borders? Mail order is very important in this county!

                  Hi Majack,
For about 5 years I had a small patchwork fabric shop 1 mile down the road, in the next village, but it closed. I can travel into Hull (1 smallish shop), or up to York for the Viking Loom, otherwise it is a trek up to Malton or Scarborough. Isn't there a shop in Brigg, called The Tabby Cat or is it just mail order? I don't actually have vast quantities of patchworking cottons in my stash and most of them came from down the road, or when I visited the quilt show at Harrogate, which was on the first weekend of Sept. However I do have lots of lining fabric, suitings, furnishing fabric samples and a few dress lengths not made up yet. Failing that it is into Boyes for 100% cotton sheeting and dye it myself

They're not so much wild Beth, as escapees. There is a farm just over the hill from us that has quite a few. They are often in the middle of the road 'fanning' up their tails and getting in the way. When they cry in the mornings and it's very still it's quite eerie. This one seems to have come for a few days visit. We have quite a lot of their relatives, pheasants, in the garden. In fact we started our RSPB Bird Watch this year with 15 on the lawn.

And Majack, a collective YAY FOR THE INTERNET!! should be in order for those orders. We have become quite friendly with quite a few of our delivery drivers. ops:

The Tabby Cat is mailorder only. But their customer service is excellent!

The nearest quilt shop to me (less than 20 minutes by car) is in Ollerton (North Notts.) The shop stocks a very decent range of traditional quilting cottons, and also a lot of knitting supplies. Just one problem: They also sell some very highly scented candles and so whatever you buy there 'stinks', even after washing. My favourite shop will always be The Bramble Patch (for variety, workshops, and customer service). But it's about 90 miles South of here, so I only manage to go once or twice a year.

Peacocks are easier to find ( ): I'm very close to Newstead Abbey (home of Lord Byron) and there are quite a lot of them roaming around free and showing off. Very nice place to go on a sunny day.

Hi Lorchen, Have you been to Wisteria Patchwork? Its like an Aladdin's Cave and is in a farmyard. They also sell duck eggs. It's quite difficult to get onto workshops as they are always full. They are open Tuesday to Friday 10-4 and I think they are currently open on Saturdays too. Its my closest and is about 45mins away. It would be the same distance for you. They don't do mail order but have a very good range.

I have never heard of Wisteria Patchwork. They are only about half an hour away from me. I now have one more item on my 'must do over the summer hols' list.

                            Hi Ladies
Been busy last couple of weeks and yesterday had a phone call that no mother wants. Youngest dd had a RTC, someone on way to airport sideswiped her and caved in the door on drivers side. Her car is a write off, but very fortunately, she escaped with brusies and bumps. When I looked at the car I thought she was a goner as it was only a little KA! Still, she is ok so I can get back to something more pleasant. If anyone is close to Radstock (Somerset) there is a quilt exhibition in the local museum of local quilters. The exhibition is great and the rest of the museum is well worth a look as well! I am stewarding on a couple of afternoons and it has been organised by my lqs, which coincidentally has won an award in Aug issue of P & Q. OOOps, shouldn't have let the cat out of the bag!!!!! ops: Also, I am going to FoQ on Thurs. 20 Aug, anyone also going on that day so we can meet up???? Better go before this turns into an essay. Hope you all are well and glad that the thumb has recovered Amo!
                            Best wishes

I'm glad your daughter is ok, Lynn. You never know with car accidents.

I'll be at FoQ on Thursday, but I'm committed to two workshops (long story ). The second one finishes at 3pm, so Della and I could meet you then. Remind me to send you my mobile number so we can get in touch on the day.
