Glad your daughter is OK Lynn!! Those calls are horrific and you feel so helpless. Now you just have to wait for the claim from the other driver that it was your daughter's fault and they have whip lash/spine pains/headaches/unable to work!  It's happened to my daughter twice!

Thanks for the head up about the show. Might break it to OH gently, we've just come back from Spain and Portugal so just enjoying home at the moment but he has his other toy car back now that needs to be driven. Perhaps I could suggest a direction!!

Still figuring out the FoQs too.

FoQ = Festival of Quilts - huge quilt show at the NEC in birmingham, 20-23 August - not to be missed . I'll be there every day, but am tied up in a few workshops pretty much all day on Thurs & Fri, but am around on Sat & Sun. Hope you can all come, it's a great day out. Very convenient to the airport and train station for those who want to come on public transport.

Thanks Ali, I know what it is, it's if I can fit it in.  (Or should I say, if OH will let me fit it in. :? )

Found this link for your show Lynn. http://www.radstockmuseum.co.uk/events.html

Thanks for the link, Amo! The 'Medieval Crafts' afternoon sounds great. Just one problem: I don't have an adult who could accompany me.

Joking aside: That exhibition that starts at the beginning of September really does sounds wonderful.

Yes it does, and I'm close enough to get there. I just have to make the effort.

I had what, to a quilter, is a horrendous experience today. I took a king-size quilt to the launderette because it's far to big for my washing machine. Their machine went wrong and it took my quilt prisoner and poured water over it for 2.5 hours. Thankfully it's none the worse, but .....

You now must have the cleanest quilt in the UK, Della! Gosh, I'm glad the machine didn't do any damage.

Good grief!! I'd have been having kittens!

Thought: If you had lots of photos and documentation of making it, would their insurance have covered it let alone paid out the full price value and would you have known, other than the price of the fabric, how much these things are worth in woman/man hours? I know heart value is priceless but...! :?:

Back to the show, perhaps we can go on an aftenoon when Lynn is there and have a mini meet up.

You know, I sat there trying to do the same sort of calculation. The quilt was a scrap quilt; apart from the borders and backing there was very little outlay in fabric, but it was very much a memory quilt. I scrounged fabric from quilting friends and many of the fabrics I'd used in other older quilts were there, including some from the first one I ever made way back in 1993. The quilt was also professionally longarm quilted by Dianne Watson in Scotland. Then there was the cost in hours of my labour. I couldn't, as you say, put a value on it (there's a whole other debate) but if I'd tried, oh gosh, the maintenance man's eyes would have popped!

What really made me laugh, was that after he'd finished apologising (and he was a real sweetie) he offered to put it through the drier for nothing as compensation. Of course, I very politely declined ...

Glad you spotted the museum link, as for the FoQ, our coach gets in around 11.30, well year before last it did, so I am hoping that even if some of you ladies are in workshops, you can give me a call when you nip out for a loo break! I can lurk by the loos!!   But seriously, I will email my mobile number to those who email address I have, and perhaps you could pass it on. I was going to post it here, then thought, you never know who could log on and view!!!!

Lynn, got your number! I'll send you mine. Expect a call around lunchtime. I'll have around half an hour between two workshops.

Della, oh dear, it was THAT quilt. I'm glad it's ok. I love it when fabrics from friends or other projects find their way into a quilt. It must be well over three years ago when I managed to snatch a left over piece of drop-dead-gorgeous batik from my friend Brenda. Somehow, little bits of this small piece have found their way into at least half a dozen projects (one of them a fibre postcard that sold for $45 in aid of breast cancer research in the the US). I now only have one 3x3 square of it left....... I wonder if I should frame it, rather than use it.
