Lotti, I'm glad you thought of doing this too! Since I already know how to write, quilting words isn't too difficult. At least I know which direction I'm supposed to go next! I'm going to use city/state/country because many of the SOTT's put only location on their triangle papers, and not their names.

If you are interested, there is a product called Golden Threads Quilt Paper that you can draw (write!) your design, then pin it to the top of your quilt then free-motion quilt along the lines and just tear the paper way!

Good point, Kathy. Instead of pin basting, I would use SUPERIOR'S VANISH to baste an area to be covered with the Golden Threads paper. But it might be a help to use the paper to figure out the lettering and just cover one area at a time?
I have used the paper, and it's not too bad to pick out the paper residue.

I've used the paper and what I did was put the paper over a small space at a time. I removed the basting pins under the paper, then put them into the paper and the quilt. That seemed to work well. It felt a little uncomfortable to me while I was doing the quilting since the paper doesn't move like the fabric quilt does, but it turned out really nicely and the paper came out easily. The paper is pretty sheer so you can see the quilt fabric underneath it,so no problem with placement or anything like that.

If I run across some I might give it a try. Probably I wont do it for the quilty writing, because I'm looking forward to doing that freehand. But for feathered wreaths, like in the 2009 BOM, it might be just the thing! I like the idea of using water soluble thread, I often do that to stabilize when doing allover patterns. But it would work for using Golden Threads paper, too. Honestly, you ladies are amazing, what you've tried and know about!

I just used Golden threads and washable markers on the quilt I finish a couple weeks ago. As some of you probably know, I feel very weak in machine quilting
and hoping this year to develop some solid skills. I've been practicing almost daily for the past month. Anyway, I started out pinning the paper and that was too moveable
for my taste so I spray basted it. It only needed a few strategic short sprays to attach it firmly so that pushing the quilt around didn't tear it. I was surprised and very
pleased about that. It was very easy to sew over it and get good fluidity in my curves (well as much as I'm capable of getting right now lol). It's definitely in my toolbox
now. I also liked the washable markers and prefer being able to see the marks right on the quilt. But it's alot of work marking a big area so the paper is more
convenient in that regard. I don't know if this is doable but since it was easy to remove it after spray basting, I'm going to try to iron a freezer paper backing to the
paper to see if I can print a design directly on it. It's too thin to go thru the computer by itself of course. Will report if the freezer paper backing works when I try it.

If you are going to quilt several copies of the same motif, you can print the motif on regular paper, staple several pieces of the quilting paper to the regular paper and sew through all of the layers with an unthreaded machine. This gives you several copies of the motif to put on your quilt. I think I've used 8 pieces of the quilting paper at a time.
