Re: putting name, town, state, country on each HST - I couldn't face writing all that on each HST paper. I printed labels (I had 1" x 2 5/8" ones). Each label had space for 4 repeats of the info and I cut them apart to stick on each HST. Easier to me!
I really don't understand why we need to press the HSTs after they are cut apart. Mine look just fine to me. Please advise.

Wilma, pressing the seams "sets" the seams into the fabric, making it easier to get a crisp line when the seam allowance is pressed to one side.
I found it lots easier to set my seams before I cut the triangles apart, and it also made the units nice and flat for the cutting.

Gosh I am cheap! I priced the labels and thought "that's a yard of fabric". :roll: :roll: :roll: Where did I spend my money? :lol: Yes, I have writers cramp. I do about two papers, then go sew awhile. It takes time, but that I can handle. (The small labels were almost $10.00 at Walmart. I'll go to my favorite LQS.)

Lorra, dont worry. I was lucky enough to see a post which gave details of being able to print your own papers free from the web, and another explaining how to print your details on those sheets, so within 5 mins I had it all sorted for the cost fo 10 sheets of paper and some printer ink. I am taking part in Btaiks R us so the money I saved on the paper and labels bought some light coloured batik for that exchange.

I also have a funny story. Proof hubby wasn't listening completely.

I'm filling the hubby in as this exchange was growing like crazy on a daily business in the beginning. Each morning and every evening had surprising numbers. Until the final morning I woke him up to ask him if he would like the final number? Yes. I told him 615. He then went into his fix-it mode. "They are going to have to do this" he explained. "Done that" I reply. "They are going to have to watch out for this" he insisted. "Doing that" I would reply again. This went on and on until he asked one last question. "Who is organizing this thing?" "Debbie and I are." Then he looked at me with surprise. I told him this is one of those "busted" moments. You clearly weren't listening to me all the time. All he could reply was... "so that's why you were on the computer so much, the last few days".

Clara - THAT is the funniest story ever! Thanks for making my day! The joy is overshadowing the fact that the mailman didn't bring my papers today, again. (Maybe my son headed him off...hummm..?) This exchange is fun!

This is for dreamquilter regarding pressing the triangles --
The original directions stated to press the HST's after they were cut. I believe Margo came up with the bright idea to press the sewn strips on both the fabric and paper sides "before" cutting them apart, which sets the seams beautifully. This eliminates having to press the little triangles after you cut them apart. Big hugs to Margo for this info. Hope this helps. :lol:

LOL....after reading the rules and instructions again and again and again, (already had printed them out with mailing labels) I just realized that the 400 something that I have already made are all ironed to the dark and packed neatly in a plastic bag.

I hope this will not present a problem. If it does I can start over and save them for another project...I already have ordered another set of Edyta's papers. I did print some out on regular typing paper but Edyta's papers are so much nicer to work with. I have to say this is addicting, but I am able to use fabrics that I thought I could not cut into. Thanks again for this exchange.

MONDAY, FEB. 7 - - 42 PACKAGES RECEIVED TOTALING 12,684 HSTs.

SoTTT's Members -- please, ya gotta help me out here!! I received 13 packages today and only 6 had the screen name and HST count posted on the outside of the envelope, which meant I had to open the package and go through it to find out who and how many.
That's not so difficult now since there are not that many, but it does take time. And once I start receiving 20,30,40 a day, it will take me all day to sort through them if you don't do it correctly.

Also, it is imperative that you use your own name in the 'sender' space on your return envelope. If you have not included sufficient postage for your package, that way it will go back to you to pay the extra postage and not me. Plus the fact that my P.O. Box will be closed after all the packages are received and your HST's could be lost forever.

Some of the packages I have been receiving have been done exactly right and I am most appreciative of those of you who did it right...and you know who you are!

Please take your time getting your package together correctly. There's still plenty of time to get them to me, so you don't need to rush.

I am about half finished sewing and now realize that I was using value as the criteria for light/dark. That resulted in some actually being medium/dark. After reading the posts each day, I now realize that the medium/dark is not what is required so I will go back to my stash and search for more lights. I would go shopping, but it is snowing AGAIN on top of the 2" of ice and ??" of snow from last week. This is the 7th day that I have not gone out. You would think I would have all of my quilting projects done, but spending too much time on the computer, watching TV, working a puzzle, cooking a little, sleeping in, etc., etc. I have also joined the batik exchange and am doing two BOMs. Thanks again to all involved. Wish I live closer to help sort.

The light/dark, med/dark could become a differnt value when put with the hundreds of other fabrics. It's scrappy , depending on the pattern I finally decide to make, it might sit next to a fabric that would make the med fabric look light. No stressing! I am using only stash! Mabye I will get on of yours!

I agree wholeheartedly. Some of the fun of scrappy seems to be stretching the boundaries...

Yes, I agree and that is what I have been sewing for the last few days. Dark/med, Med/light, Dark/light.... just good contrast between the two fabrics and all from the stash (this is a great stash buster!). I will have made 25 different color combinations (25 sheets). I can't wait to see what I get back and just how this will all fit into my plan. 5 more sheets to sew and then only 10 to cut and pack... should be out of here by Wednesday morning. I will remember to label everything and then to notify of the actual mail date (just incase life happens between now and then). Have a good evening y'all.

I have a quick question, since I nearly have my HST ready to send. I think the number of HST is the number we are sending for the exchange and should not include the HST we are sending for "Australia flood" nor "Norway". Right?

Exactly right! Just put the Australia and Norway HST's in marked baggies inside your package.

Okay Sisters (and Brothers), Now I really have the fever. Got my papers and fabrics sorted out almost a week ago, but now I really need to clear my schedule for sewing time. Y'all are having WAY too much fun without me :? This is my first exchange and the sheer size of it is so exciting; I can hardly wait to get back those little treasures and start figuring out what to do with them. Dear Sisters of the Traveling HST;
I can’t find the thread that Edyta mentions in her training video anywhere. What kind of thread are some of you using. I have Madera thread but it is polyester and i know that is not good on cotton fabric because it will cut through the fabric. The 100% cotton fabric thread I have I think is too thick. I have ordered some fabric from Jinny Beyer on line but it hasn’t arrived yet and I am anxious to get going.
Any suggestions on thread? I am in the coastal South East where we only have two quilt shops. Everything else we have to get on-line or drive to Savannah, Ga if one of the quilt shops has it. Thanks,
