Paula, it may very well be the thread topic exhausted itself... there was a short burst of interest and I must admit, many of us enjoy the banter that goes with participating in the Forum. If you do a search on threads, you'll see that this is not the first time there has been a forum topic on threads--I think one of recently was about being a 'thread snob' and you'll find a lot of information there too.
I don't mean to add fuel to the fire here by switching to yet another topic, but I also don't want to start a new topic because it is a single comment/question: I just went to your profile and found the wedding quilt you did based on Jan Krentz' lonestar pattern. It is beautiful and your choice of colors just amazing! I was thinking about using a similar approach but wanted to use the lonestar in each of the four corners of my quilt rather than as the center. Is there a book you'd recommend so that I can figure out how to do it? I'll welcome any other advice you may have either on or off-line. Thanks!

I like Superior Threads Master Peace, King Tut, Mono.Poly and Bottom line for machine sewing and quilting. I like Gutermann thread for hand quilting and DMC, Mettler and YLI silk thread for applique.
OT = I like Superior Threads Titanium Coated sewing machine needles (smooth as butter).

Whereas I would like to thank Keith and all the others who talked about cleaning out their machines because it was the 'butt kick' I needed to finally do likewise myself (don't recall the last time I did any de-fluffing
ops: ) And I certainly wouldn't have gone looking for the information in the 'talk about your machines' section.....

I find I benefit a lot from any topic on this forum whether it veers in a different direction or not, whether it goes off topic or not. I quilt as a hobby and that means I want to enjoy it. And that, for me, means having a laugh as well. Like most women my mind flits from topic to topic so I have no problem with the topic on a thread here on the forum flitting too. This isn't a classroom it's a forum where we can say what we like. And I like what you had to say Lorchen and I always do so please don't feel the need to apologize for making me laugh - some days we need all the laughter we can get!Originally posted by PDQuiltAm I the only one looking at this topic to learn about threads? If you want to talk about oiling your machine, please make a new folder for that. I find it's been a constant problem that conversations veer into different directions and no longer pertain to the topic at hand. Stay on the subject, for everyone's benefit. THANK YOU!
PDQuilt, if you think oiling a sewing machine deserves a separate thread then go for it, I am sure that lots of people will be interested.

Renata, in case Paula doesn't get back to this, you might want to check out Jan Krentz's book: http://www.amazon.com/Lone-Quilts-Be...rds=jan+krentzOriginally posted by RenataPaula, it may very well be the thread topic exhausted itself... there was a short burst of interest and I must admit, many of us enjoy the banter that goes with participating in the Forum. I gave my copy to my sister, but I think I remember it having some variations for the corners as well as the layout that Paula used.

Well gosh, I am NEVER against getting a laugh! I just find it annoying when the forum veers course, usually morphing into a small group of chit chat. Fine. But there are topics on the forum I have NO idea what they are about. I'm not alone, I'm just the one with the big mouth to bring it up. Always have been, always will be. Thanks for the nice compliments on my quilt. Definitely Jan Krentz. Get all her books - she's a real innovator, and I have learned a lot from her. Be careful to follow her directions exactly. She's got it all down to a science! Now WHAT was the topic here?? LOL

The trouble is some of us have minds like butterflies, and we flit from flower to flower in the same paragraph....
And back to threads - I have been using YLI 60 weight (18tex) (super fine anyway) for essing Caught red handed and have been pleased with how it is blending in to the seams. My next big decision threadwise is wondering what to use for the quilting patterns that I will be doing. I might actually stay with the same thread and hope to have the pattern visible from the shadows of the quilting rather than the stitching of the quilting, we will just have to wait and see.

PDQuilt please understand that while the forum is full of great ideas and suggestions for us all, it can also be a fun place, and I myself love that about the TQS forum, I don’t always have something to say but I do read it nearly every day with my coffee in one hand and the mouse in the other (and no mouse comments from you lot either by the way.....lol lol lol.....and yes Lorchen I am watching YOU) and find it a great joy, and perhaps some days I have had a bad day or just a bit tired or such but then I read and laugh my head off sometimes.........and I am quite sure you would know and understand that outside of a business meeting it’s like a group of people in a room visiting with each other and how the conversations can change from one thing to another ever so quickly.......I think that so long as we are all ever so kind to each other in life that’s all that matters in the end don’t you.........And always remember you are welcome to start a question thread on the forum of your own choice as that’s what it’s here for so ask away.
