How funny... and how wonderful! This is what a guild and this site is all about... collaboration, shared inspiration, and seeing unexpected surprises! You know, the picture is up-side-down from how I sewed it - how fun is that?
Hi Rita!!! Lorchen answered the 100% cotton content. And you asked a good question with a possible long answer. "What do I like/normally use in the bobbin?" The short answer is I generally like a 60 weight thread in the bobbin because I like the thread to hide up in the quilt. Harriett (quilting goddess) says it hides better in there and gets less wear and quilts last longer that way.
The other short answer is 'yes - the bobbin thread(s) I usually use depend(s) on the project I'm working on'. And there's a much longer answer too... Do you want that?
And your Q about how I'd rate Valdani in comparison to other threads I'd normally use - I'd rather answer that after I've played with the 50 weight. The 35 weight was good but a lot thicker that what I normally use.
The 35 weight 'jumped' around on me a little. I generally like my quilting to look tight, but still soft and a bit fluffy. To be honest, the jumpiness bothered me a bit - but I haven't tried any adjustments yet. I used a titanium Superior 90 topstitch needle and a 60w cotton in the bobbin. I think the 35 weight might settle down a bit if I got the right needle and bobbin, but I don't know what that is yet. Now I am getting too technical...
I teach this weekend - I'll use the 50 weight for all my demonstrations and let you know what I think.
There are a few spots left in class - Lorchen???
Nevermind, we'd never get anything done.

Keith don't worry about getting too technical I can handle it. (And if not my eyes will just glaze over and nobody will see it  ) This 35 wt thread intrigues me - I am presuming that it's heavier than a 40 wt thread (slightly) so I would have thought that a 90 topstitch needle would work perfectly with it - but maybe the old reliable topstitch 80/12 would work too? Or maybe all it needs is a heavier cotton thread in the bobbin. Well I hope you will let us know when you have played some more, please? I will be interested to see how you get on with the 50wt.
Now about those spaces left in your classes this weekend..... Nah, just too far for me but enjoy them.

Keith, I have used the thicker thread a lot for satin stitch. My only machine used to be a Frister & Rossman Cub4, and so I had to adjust the zigzag stitch to get something resembling a satin stitch. The thicker Valdani gave me really nice coverage. I also just liked the colours.
With a very heavy heart I have decided to stay at home. I don't want to distract you during class, Keith.
