judys, I have a friend in you!
I'm new to quilting, too, and just purchased an embroidery machine in July. I love to combine the two, although I haven't done much of anything yet other than a few quilted and embroidered pillows. Glad to meet you, and good luck with your projects! Maybe I'll get some inspiration from you!!!

I absolutely love combining machine embroidery with my quilting, or used as the quilting. I do all mine with heavy cotton threads, versus polyester or rayons, and really love the effect it gives.

I have been combining embroidery and quilts since I purchased my first Husqvarna 1+ machine in 1996. I upgraded to a D1 4 or 5 years later and finally purchased a PR600 machine. I became very frustrated sitting and watching the machine embroider when I wanted to be sewing too. Once I purchased the PR600 machine, I was able to do both at the same time.
I probably have as many embroidery designs as I have fabric and hopefully one day, I'll use them all.

I started doing the Latte quilt a few years back and just recently got back to the embroidery. I have an older 180E but I have stuck with her because I think I can figure out just about any problems or designs with her. I have often thought of upgrading to a new model but this old girl is still a winner to me. The Latte has taught me so much about multi hooping, editing etc and I really feel I have gotten the most out of my machine doing this quilt. Carol

I do hand embroidery on some of my quilt tops More often on my wearable item such as vests. I do both Brazilian Embroidery and bead embroidery (usually done as an applique and then applied to a garment. I think there are some parallells If you have any questions you can e-mail me through my profile. Also I usually embroider on the quilst label whic may or maynot be done before the item is quilted. I would like to be able to do machine emb. but probably need a new machine for thsat. I would like information about your machine and what accessories etc you need for machine emb,Thanks in advance, Ann

Two good websites for Brazilian embroidery are:
http://www.jdr-be.com/
http://www.edmar-co.com
and Quilters' Resource has the A-Z books. The one on bullions is the most relevant to Brazilian embroidery.
Basically, Brazilian Embroidery is a Dimensional embroider which uses standard embroidery stitches with some new variations and with rayon threads so the finished work has a sheen. I am also interested in silk ribbon embroidery. Has anyone have a good website for that?

I currently have the machine stitching away on blocks for a new baby quilt. The design takes 45 min to finish and am now down to 2 squares left. I use embroiery in some part of most of my quilts, whether in them or in the label. Right now I'm dabbling in heirloom embroidery designs on quilt blocks. I'm afraid to say it's turning our beatiful and may become addictive. Good thing hubby trucks and is gone most of the time.

Although I have my embroidery module(Bernina 170QE) 5 years- I only learned this week to use it. I am taking a Quilt University class by Joanne Winn- we are doing a crazy patch with embroiderie- her pattern. Do you digitize your own patterns- are their enough patterns in the machine to use. Where do one get nice patterns to combine with patchwork?

I'm new to the machine embroidery world. I'm excited about Ricky's embroidery designs along with Superior Threads providing color sets for using with these designs. What type of fabrics, stabilizers, etc. do most of you use for quilts. My quilt type preference would be the "use and wash" kind. Any input would be appreciated.

I'm in the Machine Embroidery Club at Phat 1/4 Quilting in Galena, IL. They are Bernina dealers but other makes of emb machines are allowed. We are working on the book, "Machine Embroidery Makes The Quilt" by Patty Albin. Good book!
For the Baltimore Album quilt in her book, I'm thinking (store owners idea) of using Elly's emb CD for the embroidery. Gorgeous!!Jules~
