I just cut all the pieces for my second half. Unless I miss counted, I don't think I ran out of fabric. Do we need this blue for another section?

As I was sewing/ripping/resewing my paper piecing to the center strips yesterday, I finally had to invoke the law of the universe taught to me by a colleague: better is the enemy of good. In my zeal to lime those points up "precisely" I was starting to make mincemeat out of my fabric. After that, my evening at the sewing machine was much more fun. Margo's picture makes me think that Pat and Sue must feel the same way! Thanks for the validation!

Looking at the way the points are lined up on the "real" quilt, that's not the way I thought the points would line up. I just went back and looked at the Zoom Quilt. Those points are certainly not lined up "perfectly". So what if they aren't On with the show...

Thanks Margo for the tip on Ricky's Stable Stuff. I purchased some several years ago at a Super Seminar. However, since I am almost halfway through the paper piecing, I am reluctant to switch now. I think they would look different.

What? Don't stress on details? I wouldn't know how to act.

I hope it's before the tiny green and orange triangles.

Susan, me too! I have finished what I can for January until the extra fabric arrives in the mail, and was looking at the quilt picture trying to guess what will be next. Those orange and green triangles are itty bitty, aren't they?

brought my pieces and fabric on retreat this weekend. I worked all day Saturday on the smaller sections and had such a hard time. Must have been the threat of the full moon. I ripped a portion of EVERY section that I worked on. Once I put the orange in the wrong section. Once I completed the whole section and trimmed on the wrong line. UGG!

Sunday morning before we left for home, I pieced my larger sections and they went like a breeze. I just don't get it. I guess if your like me, and having a hard time - for whatever reason, put it away till the next day and try not to get too discouraged. I still have some to do but I'm pretty sure I'll do better next time and if not, put it aside till the next time.

I just got a great tip today..... take the 18 inch long "add a quarter" ruler and cut it into shorter lengths. Like a 6" and 12" or all 6" lengths. Then you'll have a wide ruler and won't have to worry about cutting fingers that are holding the ruler still.

                        Denise,

one time I was paper-piecing an oval Mariner's Compass. (It was more complex than usual because the background had to be scrappy.) It took me 8 HOURS to piece the first quarter of it. I was so disgusted that it took me several weeks to even pick it up again.

When I finally felt able to face it again, I finished the entire thing in less than 4 hours! I didn't start this until about 10 pm, but it was going so well that I was afraid to stop, so I worked right on through until 2 am -- even though I had to work the next day.

When you're in the groove, you're in the groove! (And when you're NOT, you're NOT!)

Use Freezer Paper for your foundation and you won't have any paper to remove!!

Also: I am new to this video stuff! Please accept my apology for being zoomed in so close. I didn't realize that the actual videos would cut several inches off around the entire perimeter of what I was seeing on the camera's viewfinder! I'll try to do better in the future.

                            Hi Margo -

Your video is great! I watched it before seeing your comment about being zoomed in too far and didn't notice anything so I think it's just right. Thanks for doing these for everyone, even those of us not doing the BOM!

                              Margo -
Excellent video on freezer paper piecing. Your instructions are very clear - and it is such fun to get to hear your voice! In addition to running the paper through your printer or sewing through the paper with an unthreaded machine, it is also possible to trace the pattern right on the paper side. If the piece of freezer paper is long enough, you can (carefully) combine the two half patterns into one long section for the interior triangle bars in the quilt. Thanks for doing this - you continue to make the quilt world a better place!
                              Best wishes,
                              Mike

Oh I don't know Margo... is an apology enough?....maybe you could offer to actually stitch everybody's sashing for us... to make it up to us. The video is great Margo, and very clear, thank you. (And your nails are still looking good!)
