Oh my goodness - I just took a peek at the Show and Tell for Ruffled Roses and I stand in awe at the wonderful work that all of you have done. The creativity is amazing!!! Whether you followed the pattern and used the same fabrics as Margo or me, or chose your own fabrics, or modified the pattern... they are equally beautiful. I cannot wait to see what you do over the rest of the year -- quilters never fail to surprise me (and I should not be surprised by now!) with their great work. Keep it up!!!

Thanks everyone. While I liked Sue's original block, I didn't want to do the hearts. I was going to do a block from Erin Russaks current BOM but decided just to do a bird and keep the rest from Sue's original. Just had to redraw the vines and leaves a bit to get everything to fit. I made the vine the same way. It's cut out in one piece and then hand appliqued onto the background. Everything else leaves, flowers, bird have stable stuff under them. If you just put a bit of glue behind to hold the stable stuff on it's not hard to hand applique them at all.
Thanks again for your comments

OK. I did the center block and here it is! I am quite fond of it. If you will remember, I decided to use this block as a bridge between my open heart surgery in 2004 and my Dear Jane which I wanted to 'be done with' even though I have not done all the blocks! Perhaps about 90 of them. I won't be using all of them in this quilt, but since I have 30 or so of the triangles (also not in this quilt) there will be future opportunities perhaps.
I replaced the little circles with small hand buttonhole applique'd hearts that were printed on white fabric. and of course the flowers became hearts. I resisted the temptation to put a crack in one of the hearts! ha
Then I began arranging the bright colors of my blocks, pulled in a bold stripe to connect the blocks to the centerpiece with the green.......still auditioning sashing fabrics for the center medallion. The blocks in the upper right are mostly all sewn together so you can see the width of the bold stripe on the blank (good for quilting!!!) blocks.
I think I'm going to like it.
