Month One Ruffled Roses
Let's start a new topic especially for Month One. As soon as you have your center done, please post it here!
Here is my scrappy version with mini-piping added between the center and the setting triangles:
And here is Beloved Beauties with mitered corners:

Originally posted by djaneMargo, the blocks are beautiful. I am still trying to decide if I will do this quilt. Would it work to do the applique by machine? I am quite new to applique but really think this quilt would be beautiful and I would learn a lot.

Also, I have written a complete separate tutorial showing how I use the fabrics in the "Beloved Beauties" kits!!! Because several of the fabrics in this kit have stripes, the directions are not a one-to-one exchange with the Bear Essentials line that Sue used, and my instructions will need to be followed in order to make the best use of the fabrics. Also, because of the stripes, the yardages for the Beloved Beauties kits are not the same as Sue's! The total is the same, but the proportions are different. It may be a little confusing at first, but I hope my directions make everything really clear. They were supposed to be posted on January 1, but for some reason that is late also. I'll post a note when Bob has made them available. Again....please accept my apology for the delay, but I really have not control over any of it.

Thank you Margo! I was just searching on the net for a striped fabric to use. Found one but not sure if it will work or not. I am concerned how it will look at the mitered corners. I might just wait on the fabric here. My favorite color in quilt fabric is red so this is why I am doing the Beloved Beauties version :0). Thanks so much for your time and help!!!

If you have a striped fabric, and you want to know how it will look as a miter, use a hinged mirror to check it before you cut anything! It's a great tool for deciding exactly what part of the stripe will give you the look you want. (This is explained in the tutorial....as soon as it's posted! :? )
You can make your own by taping two mirrors together, or order one from Jan Krentz:

You will also learn lots from this video about how Jinny Beyer uses border prints:

I also have tutorials to be posted showing how to add mini-piping (like I did in my scrappy version) and how to do my version of machine appliqué.
I'm sorry for the delay.

Margo, do you print the pattern directly onto Stable Stuff or do you trace it? And where can I get something close to Stable Stuff quickly? Is there a commercial product that is similar that Hancocks might carry? What I thought was Stable Stuff most definitley isn't when I compared it to the swatch you sent me. BTW, thanks so much for that! The TQS Shoppe doesn't list it right now.

Here is my version for Ruffled Roses January. And lower part is all wonky! I used fusible web and machine blanket stitch for my applique. Lower part must have shifted while I was ironing it down. I didn't find out of my mistake until all applique was finished! There was not enough big piece of fabric for background so there is a seam. I didn't square up my background fabric before I started ironing pieces on. It would have helped to square, but background fabric piece was so small I was afraid it would be too small if I cut it in that time. So what to do when ruler says finished piece is a square, but my eyes say it is far from it? Well, make it look more eye pleasing. So I made that terrible thing: unsquared my block! I didn't have courage to cut more than I did, but it started to look better. Although it is still wonky. Well, I have to live with that. Maybe it will look better tomorrow...
