One of my friends Margaret has commented that Jinny Beyer's new range (Sophia...I think its called) has some lovely border prints that would also look good on the border/s of a scrappy version of 2011 BOM, what do you think.

I know someone, probably Margo, will know this answer. I know I saw the quilt you made with the stripes in pink and I can't find it. Will you be posting on your tutorials all three with the different colors? I assume both the pink and yellow are from Sue's fabrics. Not sure. As usual thank for your help, we will probably need to make you another quilt next year for all your hard work.

I'm not sure about the 2011 kits, but I think they will be referred to as "Bear Essentials" which are the bright colors in Sue's original version, and "Beloved Beauties" which are the softer pink and greens designed by Elly Sienkiewicz. They are both DYNAMITE quilts!!

As usual, I'm hoping that we will also see lots of original color combinations. Jill, I'm sure that a border print would work on this as a replacement for any of the pieced or appliquéd borders! You may need to add some floaters to make everything fit, but it's definitely do-able!

As for the instructions....Once again, Sue has written amazing directions for each month that you will print out to follow. However, the Beloved Beauties fabrics did not translate well for a one-to-one replacement, so I am writing an additional set of instructions for anyone using the Beloved Beauties kit. You will need to check each month to see what changes need to be made, and also follow Sue's directions for the parts I didn't change. I am trying my best to make the directions easy to understand, and I hope there won't be too much confusion, but there are some major differences.

For instance, where Sue has put those bright yellow setting triangles around the center appliqué (which is a great place to show off wonderful quilting designs!), I used a striped fabric to fussy cut beautiful miters. I will show you how to make a template to do that. It's not difficult, just a different element. And you don't need to do it!! You can put something else there. Make this quilt your own!

I have added mini-piping to several places in my quilts, and I'll show how I do that. It's not necessary, but it's a nice added touch!

Sue's instructions are once again for needle-turn appliqué. You are welcome to use your favorite technique...by hand, or machine, or fused! For the appliqués on my quilts, I'm using a turned edge machine appliqué with Ricky Tims' STABLE STUFF as a foundation. I have a tute for the 2010 Hugs and Kisses quilt using this technique, but I'll be doing another tute to demonstrate with this pattern.

OOOH, Margo! I had to wipe the drool from my keyboard! I love the scrappy version. I wasn't quilting in 1963 but I've accumulated a pretty good stash so I'm going to shop there before I go to any stores. January is going to be very exciting here at TQS!!!

I sure hope that this is not a duplicate request. There will be some great sales on batiks over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and I'd like to take advantage of these sales to purchase some of the fabrics for my 2011 BOM. Is it possible that we can get the fabric requirements early?

I have a similar question: Margo, in your Beloved Beauties version, you used a striped fabric just outside the very center medallion, and it looks like you've mitered the corners to get the effect. I've found a striped fabric that I would love to use the same way. Can you tell me how much I should order? Thank you! Robin

Robin, that's a tough one. It depends on the scale of the stripe and how many repeats there are across the yardage, and how large the mitered area is. Is it just a corner like I did on this block, or are you talking about mitering the ends of borders?
If you want to do just corners like in this block, you will need to make a triangular template, including the seam allowances and be sure that you can get 4 matching repeats and 4 reverse image repeats. Hope that helps!

There will be directions for making the miter in the January BOM instructions for what I did on the Beloved Beauties.

Thank you, Margo. I just want to do corners like you did. I've only seen the fabric online, but I have a fat quarter of it in a different colorway. From that, I'm guessing there will be three of the main stripe I want to catch (each of which is 3.25 inches) across the width of the fabric. The stripes run parallel to the selvage. The pattern between the stripes is fine to use however much of it fits. That space is 7 inches, but I wouldn't need to use all of it. I just don't have a sense of how large that portion of the quilt is. You are a wonder, and I appreciate your help! Hugs, Robin

Robin, the block I made finishes at 21-1/2", and I'm requesting 1-14 yard of that fabric for the kits to allow room for everyone to decide how they want the corners to look and to have some left for the basket and border pieces. You can pretty much decide how to cut the triangles by using 2 (12" x 12") mirrors hinged in the middle (I used duct tape) and moving them around the fabric to find a pleasing motif. You will have to show us what you are working on!

I was looking at the three colorways, and like many of the others, I couldn't decide which I like best -- they're all wonderful! So, I asked my husband what colors I should use for the quilt, and he suggested blue and green. So, I've been looking for blue and green border fabric. I found a couple I liked, but then I found the new Adelaide collection from In the Beginning ... aha!!! http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com...product=adlade. And, as it turns out, I picked up a fat quarter in the red version of the stripe on my trip to Houston (in the most wonderful quilt store in Kerrville, Texas), but I think I'll use the blue version, and I'm even thinking of using black or a very dark blue behind the lattice and swag borders, but we'll see ...

I just finished reading all the posts on the new BOM and I am having to calm down my mind...so many wonderful choices. And on top of it all even though I always print out the patterns for the BOM's I wonder if I will ever just go for it and do one...I am pulled in that direction on this quilt so maybe this is the one. I will make a decision in January I guess, but for now I have thought I would check out my stash and see what is lurking there that would make a beautiful 2011 BOM. :?

Great to see all the colorways. When I went to the booth on Wed at Houston and saw the quilts I knew I liked Elly's fabric. Then I met Sue and Margo at the booth. Margo talked about her verson which was done by machine. At that time my shopping stopped at the show because I knew I wanted to use Elly's fabric. I have always used my own stash but this time I want to get a kit. I love to applique Baltimore Album style quilts and that was the reason I went for the first time to the Houston show. My applique group had made a quilt for Elly and it was in the special display and her new book. I know this quilt will combine applique and paperpiecing that I also like to do. Sue's quilts are the reason I still belong to the site as they feed my soul. I am also starting Sue's Ladies of the Sea applique quilt as I now feel ready to tackle it after making her other 2 hand applique ones. Thanks Sue and Margo.

I noticed that they have the Introduction PDF available now that says how much total fabric you will need and shows a little snippets of the P&B fabrics she used. This is really going to be a treasure quilt.
