I'm so relieved to have the center pieced together! I wasn't sure I could do it but it worked out. This quilt is a great learning experience. I'm looking forward to next month already! Thanks for this wonderful project!

Month 5 is done and the centre is together. The hardest part for me was the last step of joining the houses to the Mariners Compass. I kept getting some puckers even though I pinned, pinned, pinned. Did some stitch ripping and more pinning and it is pretty good although there is one more spot I might redo. For now it is done and flat.

I had a few little places to "un-sew" too but it all came out in the end. Joining all that fabric into a complete, flat, beautiful circle isn't easy. Good job!

Hello all. I am doing the "Happy Dance". My center is complete, lies flat, no puckers. I followed Barbara's advice regarding stay-stitching, light weight thread, lots of pins and sewing slow & carefully. Thank you Barbara, as I seriously do not think I could have done this without your support ;-) My circle measures 43-1/4" across, which is just shy from the 43-1/2" goal (Which i believe is going to work?). I am looking forward to making large houses.

I had a little trouble getting the inner road to fit with the houses but with a little wiggling got it. Am having fun - it is definitely a challenge. Houses are not in the order suggested as I had to match the background ombre dark to light to dark. Trees are different as well.

OK this circle work has been a real challenge - but such fun watching it come together. My finished circle is a little shot of the suggested 43.5" but hopefully will all work out in the end.

Here are pictures of my 2 center pieces. Later today, I'll sew them together. They are pinned together and waiting for me. I am really thrilled as to how well they went together. My trees aren't perfect and some of my seams are a bit off, but I don't think you really see it there so much color and other interest. On to sewing them together and then can't wait for month 6.

It's finished!! I took it slow and used a lot of pins. That was very good advice. It looks so great when done even with a number of imperfections. I'm amazed at all the different colors and embellishments that folks have done. They look so wonderful. I'm thinking of doing this again but using some of the ideas that I am seeing. I normally don't like to do things twice, but i can see how many different ways you can do this project and how different it looks each time. I can't wait to see everyone's next set of houses.

Barbara, your videos and I find especially your blog post are invaluable for doing this project. As good as Wendy's directions are (and they are very good), your videos and writeup make the whole process much easier and clearer. Thanks so much for giving us your expertise.

You are so kind! This is my first ever quilt and I've only been to one quilt show in my life. Is this type of quilt (wool on linen) typically allowed?

Every show has different rules and categories. Read the rules and category descriptions carefully for any show you are thinking of entering to see if it has a category for your specific quilt. While this might be considered an Art Quilt, many shows require Art Quilts to be an original design of the person who made the quilt. That would mean this quilt would not qualify.

Here's my finished centre! I decided to omit the trees as the rainbow galaxy background is one of may favourites and just too pretty to cover up! My biggest trouble was sewing the two pieces together after the roads were added but got there in the end. Once quilted and washed I think the little imperfections will disappear. Looking forward to getting started on the city buildings!
