Folks, could I ask for prayer and a favor? I apologize, I haven't had time to be in the Forum for months since I went back to work full time and my mother died and my sister going off the deep end. I came home from Alabama and it was 2 months before I realized that I hadn't taken either of my oral medications for diabetes. I read labels every time I fill my weekly pill case and it just scared me have such a blatant brain blip. My doctor agreed that it was probably a result of my emotionally trying season. Well this past Thursday I was in the elevator at work and felt on the spot to say something to a coworker (who I have known for years - even b4 moving to this office in MI). I asked her what department she worked in because I was trying to find someone to do a trade with. We both looked shocked at my faux paux. I'm only 55 and I just buried my mom because of Alzheimers and we buried her mom too with it, I will admit to being freaked out about these episodes. It's been kind of a perfect storm the past 3 years to set me up for weirdness. Please someone tell me they experienced something like this and it's normal. I'm also post (I hope) menopausal but against the odds where my hormones are raging again like an adolescent. I didn't even have acne this bad in high school. I'm thinking I get these hormonal days like a kid that is clouding my thinking.

Patti, stress and tiredness can sure do a job on us and it sounds like you've certainly had alot of both! I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. You probably need to quiet your life down some and see if some rest helps. I went through a time when I was starting menopause and had other stresses and I kept forgetting things. Later, I realized it was just the stress I was under. Judy in Torrance

Oh Patti, You have had so much turmoil going on this year it is probably a result of that stress. I hear you about the fear of Alzheimers. I think many of us worry when the memory seems to fail us but if you just saw your Dr. maybe you simply need to treat yourself to some quiet and relaxation. I hope you have the opportunity for that and you will be in my prayers. KarenLyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio

Patti, if you are over tired and stressed out, your brain tends to short circuit your memory. (Take it from someone who has had fibromyalgia since her teens) Plenty of rest and some form of meditation/relaxation is best. I recommend yoga (they even have it for seniors with very limited mobility, so no excuses  ). try different classes until you find the teacher and and style you are comfortable with.
And, yes not taking your diabetes meds will do that to you. I have a co-worker who does not take care of herself and her diabetes properly, and you can chart the decline in her brain function. It is awful! Lovely woman, but mentally definitely not what she used to be. (You can tell the days when she has eaten properly. She's way more on the ball!)
Take care of yourself and all should level off.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm never rested and know I should have done the tests for sleep apnea long ago but there was so much medically to deal with, I just haven't taken that one on. And this past year I've lost my habit of daily quiet time in the bible which is another thing niggling at me that is important for me to do for my own sense of peace.

Patti, dear heart, you have had so much stress and confusion in your life lately, it is no wonder things seem very out of control. Just take some deep breaths and calm yourself down. You have accomplished a lot in the last year. You have survived awful tragedies and have gone back to work after some terrible times with your disabilities. Give yourself a BREAK!!!!!! You are doing OK, just get back on your meds and get back on track. Give me a call when you have time, Hugs and Love, Ann

After the many things that have come up in your life Patty it isn't too surprising that you feel like you are coming unglued. Now it is your time and you need to take care of yourself....start with a check up with your doctor and get back on your meds again to help you get back in control diabetes wise. Pamper yourself and do what you know will help lessen your stress level. Usually we know what helps us the most...but we don't always do it do we! If it is read a book...read 2 with your feet up and in a comfy chair. Write in a journal...putting all your feelings down on paper (or a computer) can help get it out and away from you. Worrying only fosters more worry...you can let it go...I know you can. Hugs Karen

Saturday afternoon my sister tracked me down at work. My older brother, one this group prayed for a couple of years ago through a heart attack & by-pass surgery, died on Thursday. He was 45...just a few weeks shy of his 46th.
Although it wasn't entirely unexpected as he'd not really taken care of his health since then, it's still a bit shocking.
My sweetie & I are heading to Maine tomorrow. There will be a family memorial on Wednesday then a friends thing on Saturday. We'll be coming home on Thursday due to obligations here though.

Patty and Teri, You will be in my prayers. It is difficult to think through times of stress Patty, and just know that we all go through that. You all have been here for me when I went through my first year in a new state, an empty nest, my father's death, and not being able to take my mother. I know prayer is working in my life and I feel so totally healed it is unbelievable. I may get a little upset when I think of how my brother and sister yelled at me, but I do not have the anger inside as I did all year long, and I'm able to let go of the upset. I'm adjusting to the empty nest, I don't feel guilty about my mom any more, I quilt and I'm learning how to take better care of myself. Yes Ann, God is good all the time, all the time God is good. I prayed for healing for myself, and I am doing better. So Patty, stress can deal a blow like we can't imagine, and as my boys tell me "breathe, mom, chill" and just know we are out here praying for you.
