Rosemary,
Looks like you had a great time, and probably the most lovely costume there.
I do like those chenille waist coats. Perhaps you’d do a little post about your process,, I would love to understand how you choose which fabrics and the chenille design to cut, very interesting.
Glad to see what you did on your Birthday.

Wendy - the waist coat is far too old and tatty to enter FoQ now, and the corset doesn’t have enough layers. :side:
Eileen - Lalume was the wife of the Wazir, played by Dolores Gray, who takes a shine to Hadj the Beggar, played by Howard Keel in the film. Two beautiful voices.
Luann - it wasn’t my birthday (that is next month), but a good friend of mine’s 50th. As for the waist coat choosing the fabric is easy, I like a plain dark fabric for the top layer (easy to see the chalk lines and calms everything else down. Under that you want about 6-8 layers of any ‘pug-ugly’ fabric you want to get rid of, preferably slightly looser weave, except for the bottom layer. When stacking them make sure that there is a good colour contrast between the bottom and second to bottom layer to make it easier to work out how far down you are when cutting through the layers. For the garment pattern, it needs to be simple (no darts for fitting) the first one I made was 4panels, (2 fronts & 2 backs), the second one, already posted, is 5 panels (2 fronts, 2 sides and one back) with the shaping down the seam lines. Next draw out all the pattern pieces on paper full size with straight grain indicated. I have a large roll of pattern drafting paper which I can see to trace through that I use. I also have a roll of wide graph paper (imperial scale) I place this under the pattern pieces on the 45degrees to draw in the machining lines for the background. Actually I think I only drew in every 4” and eyeballed the ones in between whilst sewing. The lines of stitching need to be approx 3/8”apart. The edges are finished with two lines of stitching 1/8” apart and raw edge. The panels are quilted before assembly with lapped 1/4” seams.
Chenille waistcoat Mark 1

lots of scraps went into this one.
I also made a bag using the same technique.

I won’t be doing the design on the bag again, far to many short cuts. All the cuts need to be on the bias and I start making the hole with my seam ripper and then swap to small scissors.
Thinking about it, If Terry made one (or two) it would seriously make a dent in her stash

Sorry can't wait until 8th Feb to tell you that my Through the Window journal Quilts won the Grosvenor Shows challenge. Sorry if you've seen it on Facebook . First time I've won anything, I've tried a few times
More exciting is I get a ribbon, stash of fabric and a trophy. Currently I'm irritating husband telling him I'll display it on top of his clock

I'm also really pleased my friend got runner up after I pressurised her to take part at the last minute.
