Geneva - I received a beautiful row this week! Thank you so much - I love the bright colors! I'll post a picture when my sewing room gets put back together - started the process of moving it to the basement now that my very handy father has replaced the lighting in our spare room. My old sewing room (with it's gorgeous natural lighting inch: ) will be converted to big brother's room and the baby will get his old room so everyone's sleeping on the same floor...will be sad to loose my room, but now I have something forcing me to re-organize. I wouldn't want the kids sleeping anywhere else either - the things we do for our children. I've promised myself that once I pay off my student loans (many years from now) I'll buy a long arm machine for the basement to complete my "studio". I'll try to get some pictures of the rooms before and after as well.

Because of the sewing room upset and the looming delivery day (only 5 more weeks! :woohoo: ) I may fall behind on rows again - but I promise I will catch up when I can!

Look what I found in the mailbox this past weekend:

I absolutely love it! It is my first vertical row. Our ever busy, waiting for baby, Jen made it. She also included her first try, which was a paper pieced cardinal that she wasn't super happy with. It is cute! I will include it somehow in my row quilt! Thank you so much Jen! Take it easy these next few weeks!

Barb/Wendy...cute row! I love the chicken egg roof! Definitely "shades of Wendy!"
Kath....what a cute panel! I have a Whimsical Birds board on Pinterest, so your quilt spoke to me!

I just wanted to let you know I am going to be farther behind than I thought. I fell Friday evening and dislocated my right shoulder. My left one is just sprained I think. I have an immobilizer on the right. I am right handed too. Can't do much of anything. I see the orthopedic doctor on Wednesday. I have so much I wanted to do!! I guess I am meant to slow down some. I hope we can still go to visit our son in Michigan. We were leaving on the 29th.

Very, very creative! I love Jen's cardinal in a pine tree. Nice work.

Oh Cathy! Take it easy! I'm sure your doctor will let you know if you should travel, but in my humble opinion being with loved ones, while resting, is good medicine.

Jen, dawn's row is wonderful! Btw, I have a picture of the row I sent you so if it will help knock something off your to do list I can post a picture for you.

                    Take care everyone. Geneva

Love the cardinal in a pine tree!! Wow!

How does everyone feel about pictorial rows in general and also vertical rows? Are we hoping for variety instead of always 6, 6" blocks??

Cathy, I hope you rest up and let your shoulder recover! Yikes!! Please take good care of yourself.

And, a question - I'm finding myself stumped on "flavor of you" rows. I don't feel I have a signature style or anything.......what do you guys think of when you think of me??? I might email each of you (when I get to your row) and find out things about you, because the only thing I think of as my "signature" is that I love to fill my quilts with colors, styles, block names, something, that has meaning to the recipient. Which is hardly "flavor of me" unless you all want me to do a row that "talks about" me, or of Texas, or...??

                      Suggestions??

                        I agree with Lotti...make a row that is enjoyable to do...reflecting the requests if there are any . I my case...horizontal rows 6 1/2 by 36 1/2
of any color and method works...I love all the crayons in the box !!
Now show and tell ! A row came last week and one this week !!
First from Jen.....A Rainbow row ! Then from Wendy, beautiful batiks in cool colors ! And a bonus...watercolor !
Hummmm???wonder if I can work that bird-y in somehow?? Thanks so much ladies !!

I agree with Lotti too. Just do whatever you like for my rows. Lotti, the bear looks like he is keeping cool. A good idea with our temps. Upper 90s with heat index of 110. I am really looking forward to my vacation next week.
Of course I won't be able to do much. I am having MRI of both shoulders this morning and see the ortho doctor again on Wed. He knows I had the dislocated right shoulder and suspects I have a torn rotator cuff on the left. I am in a sling on both arms. Luckily my hands still work, so I just pull the keyboard up real close and I can still type. The MRI is to check soft tissue damage. I told the doctor I wasn't having any surgery until after vacation. He didn't argue with me yet. Xrays showed a lot of arthritis in both shoulders. That I knew about for several years. Swimming helps keep them working. I am not allowed to do stairs alone, so I can't get to any sewing projects, even hand work is downstairs. I am glad I downloaded some more books on my tablet. Keeps me from going crazy! Stay cool everyone!

Dawn - I'm so happy you liked your row. As soon as I think of winter cardinals and pine trees pop into my head. I'm from Illinois and where I grew up we had a big pine tree wind break out in the middle of the country. Every winter we would have at least 1 pair of cardinals winter with us and eat out of the old feeder.

Marilyn - you asked for bright and scrappy! :-)

Cathy - I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. Rest and let yourself heal. Shoulders are tricky. If you push too hard you loose mobility in the long run....but if you don't use it at all the same thing will happen! Listen to your doctor and ask for physical therapy when he/she thinks you're ready

Geneva thanks for the beautiful row!

I've made some progress on my sewing room transition...big stuff has been moved, but I need to get another shelf to put in the closet and move the rest of my goodies/batting/ kits/etc down. Then just putting up the personal touches. I'll post images in the retreat forum for those that want to take a peek! For those involved in the same heat wave as us stay cool! Heat index of 110 here tomorrow :S this very Preggo momma isn't leaving the house this weekend unless it spontaneously combusts - and with this heat it just might!

                            - Jen

Cathy I'm sorry you're going through so much, thank goodness you have fabric to stroke. I'm sure you can include it in your physio somehow. Good luck weds I hope the news is good.

Officially due in 4 weeks, but my first 2 were both early so we're actually expecting to see her in about 2-3 weeks. Well see what happens!
