If you win one of the big ribbons at Paducah, you have a choice. You can take the prize money (which is big bucks) and have your quilt become part of the museum collection, or you can keep your quilt and the ribbon, but not the money.
That's why it's called a purchase prize

We saw some of the big winners at MDQX in VA recently. We'll see the big winners at the AQS shows, and any show that is "juried". As BJ and I commiserated at that show, there just weren't enough ribbons to go around because the quality of all the work was amazing. I think my local quilt shows accept everyone

I'm late to this forum topic, but so glad I found it! Thanks, Connie, for the great tour of Paducah....almost feel like I was there, without the crowds and the aching feet! Have also realllly enjoyed the discussions involving attending the show, showing quilts, etc. Thanks to everyone for the great input and to Connie for the great pics...you really met up with a lot of very familiar faces. It almost looks like Paducah has a small-town feel with so many "celebrities" being accessible! Thanks again for taking us with you!

Speaking of which, does anyone know how to find out the Viewers' Choice winner? I looked at the AQS website, but didn't find it.

Thank you, Connie, so much for sharing...what a thoughtful idea on your part. I agree with everyone else when they said it was like being there without the crowds and aching feet (and empty wallets too, I bet!). Pictures are wonderful, and my congratulations too, to all the winners. Having a quilt accepted makes for winners from the start.
