Sue Spargo - Show No. 810

I thought I wrote about this the day I watched this, like last Tuesday, but can't find it or any responses to it. Maybe I am finally totally loosing my mind?

At any rate, I thought the show was absolutely terrific and am surprised there haven't been any other comments. Maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places (story of my day today).

Her colors, patterns, embellishments, all just really speak to me! Thanks Sue. And by the way, you and Tom Russell make a terrific duo for inspiration!

Lynn...I agree. There was not a leaf, a circle, a bird, a tree, an anything that didn't make me say, "wow". Looking at Sue's colors, patterns, and pattern layouts will get a girl's mind thinking and planning. Great Show! Now I just have to find where I stashed all my embroidery threads and wools and think about starting another quilt...oh dear.

So true! I'm actually thinking about doing at least some of what she demonstrated on some of my cotton quilts that are sitting here waiting for quilting. I don't have to wait for wool--------or do I? Hmmmm.

Are all these quilts washable? How do they hold up? I've never washed wool.......except to shrink it? Or all these pieces just to hang on walls?

lots of great ideas - i loved those little circles too
as i'm in the middle of a baby playquilt - with scenery and lots of places for flowers and stuff - and even better - lots of different fabrics for the touchy-feely bit - those circles are great to adapt into flowers - yeahhhhhhhhhhh
can't wait - and the whole weekend busy busy busy
but i finally did my income tax forms last night - yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
today out and about with visitors from india (hope the weather won't be totally soakes as they have forecasted)
and tomorrow my best friends taxes - her birthday present - she asks for this every year
but NEXT WEEKEND - is going to be EMBELLISHING WEEKEND from friday night till monday morning - well -maybe i'll leave a little time for sleeping

I agree with you Lynn, just amazing. I would love to start with a small wall hanging on my first try. I am a little intimidated by the process. I don't know what kind of wool you would use on the project. Always looking for cottons for quilts I have not ventured past that section in the quilt shops. I am going to see if I can find one of her books, I think I will need all the help I can get on my first try. I am a color junkie and could look at Sue's quilts for hours. Any suggestions on wool fabric would be great.
          Hope everyone enjoy's their Saturday.

I know most quilt shops are carrying wool felt now.........imagine they know the answers to all of MY questions about durability, washability (?) etc. Colorfastness? Probably answers on line if I just took the time to look.

But like the rest of you, watching her show just made my fingers "itch" to get on with it! You could tell Alex had the same feeling! ha

Lynn..... Here are some online sites for wool that I have purchased from. Please be sitting down when viewing, not cheap! I especially love the over dyed wool. The wool is already felted and machine washable. I have a project in progress and it needs some punch. Sue Spargo just helped me with that. Whoo Hoo!! I have a lot of threads and embellishments from my stitching days. I have been waiting for this show to air. It is all I hoped for. Love it!

Okay...here is my question: How can a cotton background fabric sustain the weight of layers of wool and silks and cottons with all the threads and yarns and embellishments? Won't it get really floppy? I feel it needs an iron on interfacing or a stabilizer. But, Sue did not mention that...so I guess not. Then I thought, maybe it's the quilting, but her quilts don't look heavily quilted. So is it me, over thinking something I don't even need to think about?

You are not over thinking, makesgeese! I have wool sunflower applique's that were to be a quilt and I just did the center and it is going to be a wall hanging. The wool applique is on brushed flannel, so that gives some stability but it is heavy all the same. It is a work in progress so I can't say how it will hang when finished. I machine blanket stitched it and Sue Spargo is right.... It looks flat. But using black thread instead of matching thread helped make it pop. I also have another BOM quilt kit stashed away that is all wool. Someday I hope to actually get it done. Small blocks (all in wool) to be done by hand using a blanket stitch using matching thread. Ugh.... Will take forever. After watching the way Sue Spargo stitched (whip stitch) I am going to go with that. It will be so much faster!
