Way too cool, Rosemary!!! I love the fabrics, the design and how you chose to do the quilting so far! 8) 8) 8) Thanks for the explanation on how you went about it.

Gorgeous quilting Rosemary. You must have been very fetching in those froggy culottes.

Should have kept them then you wouldn't have needed to make the new blue skirt.

Okay, I suppose this is part of the journey... learning how to do sashing. With this particular sampler, it just did not make sense to me to put a mark on the sashing to ensure I had a straight line going down when I put the blocks together... too much work! I started doing it, then realized that there was a simpler way. When you add the second row to the previous sashing and you have the two pieces rights sides together, you can see where the stitching line of the top side of the 6 1/2" sashing matches up to the 6 1/2" line on the right hand side of the bottom sashing. If you keep those two one on top of the other when you pin, you should have a straight line of blocks going down. See the little red arrows where I believe sew lines should match up. Correct me if I'm missing something, please!!!

When attaching a new row to one that has the horizontal sashing already on, put your right sides together, just match up the vertical sashing lines and pin. Still "pardon?" It actually worked for me.

No that sounds sensible I'll let you know later if I muck it up but with a few little adjustments hopefully it'll go ok

Great tip Renata, makes perfect sense to me (currently a sashing virgin)

By the way the backs of your blocks look beautiful

Sashing is done! Now I am thinking about using some of the gold of the log cabin next to the sashing and then add the green leaf fabric as the outer border perhaps with a small bit of piping in the purple of the centre of the sawtooth star blocks. Any thoughts? Other ideas? Should I consider something bolder for the outer border?

Renata what you've got there looks terrific. And I suppose the sashing was easy-peasy for you too.

Looks fabulous. Your plans sound just great for the quilt...piping would be fun to try. Maybe I'll do that on my quilt to give me the practice. Got to keep up, afterall.   Meanwhile I'm making a tote bag that started off as a simple project and keeps getting more complicated  to take with me next week.

Thank you, Marilyn! Rita, easy-peasy ONLY because I agonized to get perfect 6 1/2" squares before putting the pieces together. I'm sure this is the first and last time sashing will be easy. I found one set of squares side-by-side that were off by a bit when sewn together, and I ripped a little bit of the seam to straighten it so the sashing would be right. BJ, you made a bag for next week, how about new clothes for the Philadelphia Extravaganza? I'll be wearing my classic black dockers or jeans... whatever I'm most comfortable taking a class in (oh, gosh... that would be pajamas!   ).
