I saw Katelyn last night and she is doing much better. Other than the fact that I almost didn't go into her room because she now has dark reddish brown hair (she is a blonde) and I didn't recognize her. She also got it cut. It was half way down her back and now it is just below her shoulders. Her speech and mental faculties are fine, she can move and use her right arm, but she can't move her left leg at all. She can move her toes but that is it. The leg also is tingley when you touch it on the thigh and the calf is numb. Since her arm came back yesterday we are in hopes that the leg will follow soon. She was very upset that they checked her for drug usage but I told her not to take that personally that probably 98% of kids her age that come in with these symptoms have overdosed. I said they don't get many 18 yr olds that have a stroke clean and sober. Of course she thinks that they should know her better than that. Right now she is in the cardiac ICU but they are going to transfer her to the neurology floor as soon as they have a bed.
Thanks for all the prayers. They are sure working.
I'm doing better today, yesterday I was a mess. Between things going on at work, home and then Katelyn I was about ready to take a vacation in the mental ward. I think now I'm ready to forego that to having a nice calm weekend.
Thanks again and I will keep you all informed.

So glad Katelyn is doing better and praying she continues to improve also. I had to giggle a little at her being indignant that they tested her for drugs. She sounds like a fighter - just like her grandma, eh Judy? You hang in there. Prayers for you, too.

Judy - so glad that Katelyn has improved from when you first posted. She sounds like such a neat young lady and I sincerely hope she is back in her world of friends and family and out of the hospital. You take care, OK?

Just an update. Katelyn had a spinal tap Friday and they couldn't get enough fluid so they had to redo it today but in the operating room and put her to sleep. We don't know anything yet from that test. They were talking about her having a spinal stroke, but everything I could read and understand about them it doesn't sound like that to me. Of course I'm only a grandma. The only lasting effects she seems to have is her left leg. She still can't move it. They were going to send her home over the weekend and her mother said absolutely not! You haven't even found out what really happened yet, you aren't sending her home until you have some answers.
I've been pretty sick since all of this happened. First with just a nervous stomach I'm sure but over the weekend it turned into a horrible cold/flu. I am feeling better today so hopefully by tomorrow I will be back in the swing of things.
Thank you again for all of your prayers.
Judy

Well, she is now home from the hospital. I haven't talked to her or her mother since she has been released so I don't know if they found anything out. I do know that she has a fear of it happening again. She can get around some and I know that they have scheduled phsyical therapy for her. Katelyn has decided that she is not going to go back to high school. She has missed quite a bit this year and she won't be able to participate in the dance corp anymore so she is going to get her diploma through the local college. Actually if she does this she will be able to start college almost a year earlier because she has the rest of this year, plus next year before she would have graduated. She was held back a couple of times because of her health problems and the amount of school she missed.
I'm praying that things settle down in her life for awhile and she can get some peace of mind. Of course as most of the QYW members know we have had almost 18 yrs more than we were supposed to have. We were told when she was 3 days old that there was no hope because of heart problems. After many prayers she went home soon (I think she was around 12 days old). The doctors were going to try a surgery just to keep her alive so things could develop more. I still remember the 3 doctors standing there and one saying, what happened in the operating room we had nothing to do with. They were amazed. She has had many surgeries and many mountains to climb, but with her fighting spirit and the answer to prayers she is definitely our miracle child. Please keep the prayers coming because they certainly work and we all need as many as we can get.
Thanks again,
Judy

Judy, prayers continue here in MA. She sure is a remarkable young woman, already planning a way to go forward, despite the setbacks. Prayers also for you and her family for all the support you give to her ~ I'm sure that encouragement and support are what keeps that fighting spirit alive.
Hugs, Georgia
