Joke of the week on me..."I don't really like to shop". Ha! did I ever eat some humble pie.
Margo, it truly must be an awesome feeling to have a quilt in any show. Every entry was a winner, and the ribbon winners were truly over the top. I am truly amazed at the level of creativity displayed by all.
One of the best parts of the week was meeting all our TQS friends, national teachers, prize winners, Meredith and Bonnie, and just chance conversations with others quilts, all who really are mortal and soooo friendly.
I have two wait list applications from the Hampton Inn if anyone wants them. Email me privately. Decisions are made by Hampton within a month after the show and it's first come, first served. It was clean, had great coffee, and a reasonable breakfast included. This contrasts sharply with Cindy Needham's room that had cockroaches in another hotel (she moved). (can't remember which one).
We visited Caryl Bryer-Fallert-Gentry's shop where she lives and worked, and talked to every customer, generously allowed us to take photographs of her quilts. She is an amazingly friendly, giving person.
If the AQS show was good, the National Quilt Museum almost left me in tears of joy. No cameras and cellphones allowed, but the quilts are right in front of the viewer (not cordoned off) so we could see all of the amazing details. All of the Best of Show quilts for the last 30 years were on display. We were supplicants on the altar of the quilting gods. I could not pick a favorite.
This was Robin Gold's and my first time in Paducah. We did not see a fraction of the town, which is full of shops, small restaurants and side-shows. I was thankful for the end of each day to rest my weary legs and feet. I do know that I'd like to meet every single TQS member in person some day! I'm feeling a little sentimental right now.
And, by the way, my daughter just went for her first doctor's appointment, so I'm allowed to announce publicly, I'm going to be a Grand-ma-ma in December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS, Ricky had us belly-laughing for over 2 hours at his concert.

Susan, first of all, congratulations on soon becoming a grandma. It's even better than becoming a mother!
It was a joy to meet you in person at the show. Wasn't it a great week? The weather was fantastic and it seemed more crowded to me than in the past few years but there are so many people it's hard to tell.
I bought fabric that I didn't need but wanted nonetheless, thread that I will probably use and a few gadgets I really did need. I even went back late Saturday just in case I might have missed some vendor (fat chance - I think I saw every one of them several times).
The great part about shows like this is getting to meet new people and see old friends. I think TQS has been terrific in, among other things, facilitating the forming of friendships between people who may never see each other in person.
I already have my hotel reservations for Houston so I'm looking forward to seeing more TQS people there.
Robin
P.S. Boy, did we ever go through a lot of bottles of wine!

Thank you so much for posting the pics and your synopsis! Gives me a feeling of being a fly on the wall. DH & I have been to the museum, but we were not in Paducah during a show.
It's always great to meet on-line friends live and in person. I have done it with others from another forum.Carol in SW Michigan
