    All Things Rhapsody

Hey all. Web Guru Bob has created a space for you to discuss and share ideas, and comments about the Rhapsody Reality Blog. It is VERY encouraging for me to get your blog responses. However, this will be a place for you to chat with each other about it. If you are making a rhapsody along with me, you should take photos every now and then and post them in your additional profile pics. Then, tell us here and we can all go check them out. You can also comment about the strange, edgy videos. - So - here ya go!

I was hoping for a thread on the forum for this very thing and would love to see everyone's progress on the Rhapsody quilts.

I've posted my first sketches in my profile if anybody wants to take a look and tell me what you think. I haven't gone any further than the sketches yet.

Laura/Diva, I think they are all wonderful, but I'm with you on wondering if the two on the left might be better saved for a later project. The right-hand ones both look a bit simpler. Then again, I'm one of those people who never likes to start with "beginner" projects in any undertaking! LOL
Which one is calling you? You should definitely just go with the one that most wants to be made. That is the one that is the one that will more than return the energy you put into it.

Laura/Diva, love your thread quilt! And your rhapsody quilt designs. You look like you'd be a great neighbor! Wanna move to Houston? Nah, I thought so. You like your Calif climate! LOL

editied only to add: I took Ricky's Seminar in Escondido in March and watched him design with the Rhapsody project............I'm dying to make one, but like you, my head is spinning with ideas.................... the seminar truly was SUPER!

Thank you for this spot for rhapsody talk...it's so much fun. Laura, I love all your drawings, I think my favorite is top right. It looks like it has so many choices for fabrics.

I posted my first drawing on my profile today. I have many......some much too hard for now...but I think this is my favorite. It is gona be so much fun watching the different drawings and quilts come to life.

What fun to see everyone's designs. I have posted mine on my profile. The top one was the original and the bottom is adjusted. Just to show you that you can change stuff as you go to make your quilt even better!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments and encouragement. I'm going to make one of the simpler versions on the right for my introduction to Rhapsody quilts.

Thanks also to Dana and CK for sharing your drawings! They look like they'll make great Rhapsody quilts. I hope you'll continue to share your progress.

Tarabenet: I don't like to start with "beginner" projects either! Somehow I suspect that any Rhapsody pattern would be quite a challenge.

Quilter Lynn: actually Houston is on our "short list" of places we're considering moving to someday, and trust me, this time of year it seems like any climate is better than the one here!

Ricky: Aha! Now I see why the freezer paper pattern needs to be half-size.

                  To all,
One thing I often encourage is to 'give the quilt a hug' with something that is more border-like. It is easy to have lines just flowing right of the edges, and that certainly can work, but just give some thought to the border area. If your design currently has lines flying off of the edges, you could slice into what you already have to create the border and just erase what is flowing off of the edges in that area. Just food for thought - contain the design a bit.

Ricky, thank you so much for doing the rhapsody videos. I have looked and looked at your quilts and marveled at your expertise. I always wonder, did he applique or sew curved seams. Looks like I'll know pretty soon.

This rhapsody might be just the thing to jump start my quilting juices again!

Thanks again, Ricky Have a great ('new') day!

Okay, Ricky's Rhapsody Blog made me do it: update my profile and submit 6 photos--I want this quilt!

My only question: how am I supposed to get any quiltmaking done if I'm spending ALL my time on this website!

Pardon me for a silly question, but what makes a Rhapsody quilt a rhapsody quilt? They are beautiful but I had not been able to see what it is that you are shooting for on this one. Is it an appliqued piece that is the same shapes that attach to each other? Or am I way off base there? Help.

OK, I've posted my ghost drawing in my profile. I have no idea what's next in this technique, but I'm having great fun going along for the ride. I think I understand what Ricky talks about in giving your quilt of hug with the border, and I think I've covered that. What I'm wondering is that my center of the drawing is not an open center like the others, and is more like a narrow cross thru the center. Will this be a problem in piecing this together, or should I try my hand at another pattern with a more open center area?

areitzel - If you go to Ricky's website (there's a link up above under his pic) and click on the quilt part and then on Ricky's quilts, a pic of Fire Dragon Rhapsody will come up along with a description of what a Rhapsody is. He also has two other Rhapsodies posted in the second quilts half. Cindy in definately the first day of summer st louis.
