Yikes! Here in the States, we have an unwritten rule: Don't put the quilts on your greasy head!!!!!!!

I am sure no one put a "greasy" head on anyones quilt. Anyone who knows, loves and cares about fine workmanship like our "Embroideress Extraordinaire" would handle such work only with great love and care. How rude to suggest the contrary! Lois

Yes, camera angles can be so deceiving, because it wasn't actually touching my head at all. But it was marvelous to give them a good 'furtle' with nekked fingers

You know what amazed me the most - how thin they feel! thinner than tweed cloth, crikey they were thinner than denim jeans! 'Blankets' they most definitly not! and I should know, because that is what I am using and mine are 3-4 times thicker.

What a great time you all had, Thanks for sharing the day with us . Well done for getting there in such bad weather , we had 9 inches of snow in our back
garden in North Wales in April as well I could not beleive it , Today the Blackbirds are back building nests in the bushes even with the remains of the snow on the ground,
                  what little troupers they are.

At the beginning of the day Ricky asked if any members of the quilt police were present. Nobody put their hand up. I guess they were all in the US.

Getting really close to those quilts and following Ricky's instructions to handle them was neither disrespectful nor bad behaviour. We actually walked away admiring the workmanship even more.

I will in future be more careful what I share because I don't want to upset anybody. It always amazes me how an innocent comment (or picture in this case) can lead to reactions that take me back to my childhood when I got my hand smacked hard because I was naughty and touched my mother's favourite silk scarf when I thought she was not looking.

Margo, please, let me know if you think I should edit my posts, removing the offending comments and pictures.

Well, my mistake. If Ricky said "go ahead and put the quilt on your head", then it was perfectly justified. So, on one extreme we have white gloves, and on the other we have "anything goes." So I'm the one who offended. Sigh.

Why are you offended? Like everything in life, we often do things our way, and have our own opinions about this, that, and another. If there are rules that make sense, then we try to stick to them, like signs saying 'don't touch' or 'no photography'. Some quilts these days are so heavily embellished that they really cannot be washed, so bring on the white gloves! But if a quilt gets washed regularly and used, either on a bed or as a teaching aid, then it's very nice that it can be handled with the permission of the owner. I guess it also makes a difference what sort of event we are talking about - a small gathering of quilters, or thousands of hands in Houston.

By the way, white gloves don't necessarily mean that a quilt is respected. I remember some years ago that a quilter with white gloves was examining a quilt. She then sneezed, holding her gloved hand in front of her mouth, and then continued to touch the quilt. Few things in this world are perfect.

Lorchen - PLEASE don't edit your posts or worry about what you say! I know that I love to read your posts and see your pictures, and I'm pretty sure many others do, too! The Web and the written word are very dangerous because we generally can't include our inflections to get our true meaning across. Just as pictures can be deceiving because of camera angles. I go by the philosophy that if I don't like what someone has written, unless it is obviously defamatory or completely out of line, I just move on and let it go. There are a lot of people in this world and all of us are sensitive to different things. If we try to monitor what we say to meet everyone's individual sensitivities, then we won't be able to say anything at all. And we lose an awful lot that way. At least that's my opinion.
