I got there in time for lunch about 12:40pm, after a nightmare of a journey. It was very straight forward, across the top of the country on the M62, and then head south for a few miles into Oldham. Unfortunately it took me over the highest motorway point in the country, which had been hit with about 6" of snow the night before and it was still sleeting as I drove over it. So a journey that should have taken 1.5 hours actually took 4 hrs 20 min! It is very dispiriting sitting in the outside lane of the motorway with the handbrake on for a timed 2 minutes on the one occasion I could be bothered to check

Still I got to meet up with Lorna & Lorchan again who had nobly saved me a seat on the front row from all comers during the morning. I got to show off my hst quilt (basted) and some of my Yubinka (japanese style ring thimbles) bought some fabric for my reels quilt, and came away with ideas for a rhapsody quilt and a new twist for yubinka, and ideas for what colour thread to quilt my hst quilt in. So despite a dreadful start, a great ending. 8)

Lorna and I had been luckier than Rosemary because we had travelled the night before and so avoided that unusually nasty and very short spell of evil weather.

Ricky had come from London and told us that Justin had gone back home from there, but there had been a lot of snow in Colorado and Justin was stuck somewhere between the airport and La Veta and had not made it home yet. By now he should be back. Ricky had forgotten his hat in London (fortunately he was going to back to the same hotel, so it wasn't lost) so we got a 'hatless day'.

The event had been well planned by the folks who run a shop called Patchwork Parade, and everything went very smo0othly despite the weather outside.

Ricky wove his very special brand of magic all day. From 'meet the man behind the quilts', to 'caveman style', to 'convergence is fun', to 'anybody can do a rhapsody'. I kept thinking: That's another project for after I retire!

Lorna and I were very relieved when Rosemary finally made it. I had this picture in my head of her sitting in a traffic jam on the motorway, wrapped in her HST quilt (I'll pop some pictures of that in the appropriate album).

I recognized a few more TQS members and managed to get a picture of Mary:

I was very surprised how many quilts Ricky had managed to bring, despite all the travelling he is doing right now. When Ricky had an exhibtion at Festival of Quilts a few years ago he showed a lot of his big quilts, and they are all stunning, but I must admit that I loved, loved, loved the little ones he had brought with him (pictures later).

One of the most amazing things (Ricky you rock!!!) was that he encouraged all of us to handle his quilt. being able to get that close to these quilts without white gloves was like having sex without............ well, you know what I mean 8)

Here are Ricky and Rosemary with her HST quilt (more picutres in the HST thread).

                        Gorgeous new quilt:

And, finally, a whole row of little ones.

That's it. The only thing I would like to add: Thank you very, very much, Ricky, for a most entertaining and instructive day! Hopefully everybody who was present will now sort out their design walls and ironing boards, and they'll know what not to put in your sandwiches.

I am so pleased you all made it to the show. I was watching BBC news last night and saw the snow and I immediately wondered. Great photos Lorchen thanks for all of them. What a lot of fun it looks. I am looking forward to Ricky's seminar here in June.
