Nancy, that was exactly how I thought before I retired. Another quilting friend and I were retiring at the same time. Two years before we made the move, she told me we were in the "red zone", meaning work time was winding down, and we both needed to enjoy picking up fabric and any other sewing goodie we thought we might possibly need when the big day came! And we did exactly that!!Originally posted by "rehak" post=126605Don't forget to stop by my place on your way to Marilyn's. My stash is so big that I'm embarrassed to show it. But at least I know that if I'm poor when I retire, I can still quilt for the rest of my life!

A dear friend gently reminded me to take a photo, which I did today, of a quilt I finished last month. It's the first large quilt I've quilted on my domestic machine. Now that I've gotten this one under my belt, I'm hopeful my quilting will be better next time. All the straight lines were done free-motion, some straighter than others, but I don't think it will matter much in the end, it looks organic. Our niece will be stopping by next month and receiving it as a gift. She wanted something that would look good with her Ethan Allen furniture in her new house but soft enough that she could curl up under it on the couch with a good book!

Geneva, I do hope you begin to have an easier time of it from now on. I would love your view from the sewing machine but I probably wouldn't get much work done for sitting staring out at the beauty. You all have far too much fabric in the USA! Renata, what a stash and so many look like fabulous batiks. Your latest quilt is soooo beautiful I wish it was mine. I just adore the colours you have used and the appliqué looks so gorgeous. Well done. Now you just need to make one a month for the rest of your life to get through all that fabric! You too Marilyn and Geneva (and Nancy with the secret stash! )

Wonderful quilting space, Geneva! I love how you have it organized and your view is incredible!
Beautiful fabrics, Renata, and I love the quilt you made for your niece! Your quilting is wonderful and, as Lois says, your quilting skills improve exponentially when working on real quilts. I think it's because we let ourselves be sloppy when working on practice pieces since it doesn't matter, but we really try our best on real quilts. Your niece is going to love it! It's definitely everything she asked for, and more!
Your little quilt is incredible, Rosemary!
If I put my fabric on foam core centers, I wouldn't be able to fit it in my house. I would take pictures, but the fabric is all over the house. I really look like a hoarder! Maybe I am.....

Well--I have apparently been gone longer than I thought--I had 63 posts to go through just on the thread.
So, here is my studio:
I could show you this view which is beautiful and full of love:

Or this one that is kind of a mess(it is my inspiration wall--notice all the practice blocks?):

Maybe you want to see my design wall (hanging from the ceiling and is 8' x 8'):

Yes--I have TOO much fabric:

I know what you really want to see is this:

Or possibly this (notice the window shades--you can only see out the top of the one--got to protect my investment which is on the opposite wall!)

I love my space--I am truly blessed!

Renata your fabric is so organized! And your quilt is so pretty. I know your niece will love it.
Rosemary, your weed wacker quilt is pretty. I like all the colors.
Rita, I do have a problem sometimes of finding myself just staring out the window and watching the mountain change. It is very different through the seasons. It makes it hard to make those 2-3 quilts I said I'd make per month! HA!
And Wendy, we have a blow up bed that sits in the middle of my sewing room for over flow guests. My sis-in-love got to sleep with all my fabric for a few nights last August. She loved it!
I took my mom home today and she is happy and feeling much better. Thank you all for your good thoughts. Here's a big hug! :cheer:
