Thank you, Lois! How nice of you to maintain liaison with Captain John and follow up on to share our wonderful CW experience--wouldn't it be nice to highlight it and share not only the outcome of our great experience but also celebrate the decennial of the Loch Lomond Quilt Festival?

When Lois told me about what Capt John had said quite a while ago after she first spoke to him I wrote to Lilo and told her all the facts and figures and when the big reveal was and that I was quite prepared to send a copy of the photos that Kim was going to take. I assumed that because it was to do with TQS members that they would be very interested in the whole saga - but I never got any reply from anyone!!!!!!

Quite disappointed with the lack of communication, even a thank you but no thank you would have been good manners.

Maureen, I am a bit disappointed too.

Wendy-- ops: I haven't kept up with the whole thread. I just pop in when I see a comment in other places. I will go thru the 200+ pages and see what I can see.

OK--in my defense, I started to follow this thread and then realized I didn't know what in the world you were talking about; and then, and I am not complaining about this part--because I do it too, you all went off talking about things I didn't understand. So, like I said, I only popped in once in a while.

Now I decided to look for the pictures Wendy spoke about (senior moment {well several minutes} I started at the beginning looking for pictures). After about 20 pages the brain clicked in and I decided to start at page 150 and go forward. At page 199 I finally got some help.

Now let me see if I understand this whole thing(by the way I still have questions but at least I think I have an inkling): this is like the game we played as kids called Chinese telephone (I don't know why it was called that but that is what we called it) someone tells you something and you have to pass it on to someone else, down the line to the end, the last person tells you what they heard.

So, the first person saw a picture and translated it into a quilt (did said quilt get passed along or only a picture?), then the next person takes what they can from that "quilt" and makes their version (were impressions from the first person sent on to the second?) she makes her quilt from the impressions she got from the first quilt (or story from the first person? See I told you I had questions) and on you go until everyone has done a quilt. I am guessing you were never to talk about what the first picture really looked like.

As I was reading the thoughts of each person as they tackled their quilts I chuckled--chickens? I could see each of your personalities (as seen here in the mug rug thread). Love it. I know you all had a wonderful time.

So, if anyone wants to clear up all my confusion--I might consider joining the next group.

                Hi Ritzy -

Interesting -- I'd never heard it called "Chinese Telephone". When we were growing up, we just called it "Telephone". So that might clear up for me why "Chinese" is included in this challenge name.

Anyway, you are correct. This is the quilting version of "telephone". We did not get to see the original picture or speak to anyone about any impressions. We worked solely from the quilt itself. In our case, we also sent a photograph to the next person when the quilt was finished just because we were the only international group and we were worried about mailing time. The official rules are that you only receive the actual quilt from the person before you and you make your quilt using that as inspiration. Then you send your quilt on to the next person (with no label, impressions, text of any kind) and send your inspiration quilt to the moderator. Nobody sees all of the quilts until the final unveiling.

                Nancy

Oh, that would be a little scary sending the quilts all over the world. Was there a regulation size?

                  Comment

Yep, there was size limits and time limits...with consideration for holidays and travel ,etc. All went
well...everyone got done in time...My geese got "lost" (not really  ) in Arizona a while, but made
it to Scotland in the end !

Marilyn, I don't blame the cute little geese. Arizona has great weather. Of course they wanted to stay. We all went there on virtual pool parties.

Ritzy, the reason this forum thread talks about everything EXCEPT the Chinese Whisper is because we were not alowed to to discuss it in any way....and Maureen was watching us to make sure it didn't happen!

Ritzy, I just lost a post trying to say all the things the others have said in the way of explaining the length and diversity of topics on this thread. All I have to add is that we loved that others joined in our chatter, or natter (depending on which side of the pond you live). It was lots of fun.

Lois, I think that happens in a chatty group when two people are talking at the same time.
