It's sure all a matter of personal sensibilities ...I like the balance here, Rosemary.....and I really like the "scrappy"
look with hidden stars ! I loved the original one, too...but I will say it might have led me astray of the
Red Fury design....where others were vaguely reminiscent which is where my mind goes..to keep the" whisper" going.
This is such a good exercise for me....and #200 is going to be a big stretch ! I'd love to see all of these ideas made up.....
Keep 'em coming !

Maureen, I'm really sorry to hear about your friend and her DH. One of my best friends, more like a sister to me, is having a really hard time too. Thankfully her DH prostate cancer was encapsulated and was removed with surgery without the need for chemo or radiation. He's recovering really good. On the other hand her Dad's cancer in a kidney, just got spread to his liver and esophagus and there's not much hope, neither he wants to try chemo, since the possibility it'll work is minimal. I know exactly how you fell, I wish there was more I could do for her, but we also live in different states so, all I can do is call, send her messages, pray for them and be there for her whenever she need to talk  We will include you, your friend and her DH in our prayers. I think Wendy's idea is really good, maybe using the photo as inspiration but including how you want to see your friend (meaning, she and her DH healthy and happy) might help with the "quilters block" (no pun intended). I'm sure you'll come up with a gorgeous quilt. Hugs

Rosemary, I actually like more your final version of the quilt. To me, seems pretty well balanced, and the light, medium and dark values read very nicely with just enough "pop" from the red. But then, I really like random and the unexpected:shock: As for the quilting, I think stars all over, like if it was one of those long arm continuos designs, would work very well instead of ESS or NESS
Lois et al, I'm up for using 200 & 201 for this week exercise. I love the final quilt and how she found a way to work around her issue with applique, and as a result, it turned into a gorgeous piece, when she could've just have one more UFO or pass it along to someone else.

Maureen, my heart goes out to you about your friend and her husband and I can only imagine how you are feeling. The Chinese Whispers quilt will come to you, don't worry, even in the midst of all of this, when you least expect it and it will be beautiful.
Rosemary, your Red Fury experiment has really grown on me, and I must say, I really like it and could not imagine changing anything about it--I'm very interested in what you will do with the quilting and can't wait to see it!
Limbania, I also wish you and your friend good things as her husband recovers.

I'd just remembered that since it was monday we should be reporting back on ideas for interpreting quilt no 200.
My idea works off of the little blue bird, and the quantity of quilting that we saw. So I thought that what I would go with would be to hand dye some fabric blue - possibly indigo - and then play about with folded and cut paper to make a medallion of birds & branches, and then quilt it(to death) as a whole cloth quilt.

Well, I had something similar in mind, Rosemary..as the thing was limited. As for the little quilt..I'd say
it was just fine ! Because the quilting doesn't show much and is mostly texture. IMHO
I'm off today to a lovely quilting retreat for 3 1/2 days  ....about 1hrs drive from here in the mountains. I intend
to get my reels all made and maybe sewn together. Also taking other WIPs to work on and move up in the queue.
It is beautiful and comfortable...nice to be pampered.! Will be quiet on this front !!

Lucky Marilyn have a great time.
My interpretation of the little quilt -
Well all the quilting is swirly and suggests waves to me so water, so that led me on to think of where water and tulips meet so I think I would do a quilt of a narrowboat on a canal with tulips in pots on top and bluebirds sitting on the roof.
I don't know if you have narrowboats over the pond so click to see one
Bet the person after me in the challenge is getting really worried
