Two things Rosemary - you mean October 8th :?: and so we are all on the same page - are you thinking of page 942
Red Fury Quilt #: 1000100 Added on 01/02/2007:?: :?:ops: Yes I did mean October 8th, as for the quilt I just thought of a number in the Quilt Gallery and then went and looked at it afterwards, and it is the Red Fury quilt.
We could take it in turns picking a number  , and then going and working on ideas that we can talk about, and anyone can join in 8)

Hello peeps! Sorry I have not been much of a presence lately - my kids have had flu...or so we thought! Turns out my 18 year old daughter has Glandular Fever (Mono to you Americans). Oh joy, a month to six weeks out of school and then 3 months without any physical exercise. I will be completely mental by then  My son is fine and back to school.
Love the idea Rosemary. And it's interesting that there is no information connected with 'Red Fury' so we can reinterpret it any way we like. Looking forward to seeing what everybody comes up with. It will be interesting to see what we all find.

OH Rita - I really feel for you & your daughter, I had glandular fever in my early 20's, it is so boring and depressing, I remember the days when just getting up & dressed was all I could do for the whole day. I did manage to read a lot - went through a lot of odd old books at my parents house, because they were there and it was easier than going to the library. Any chance she could be encouraged to do a bit of simple piecing (maybe quilt as you go like Lottie does) when she does feel she has a grain or two of energy? and make herself a sofa snuggle quilt.

Rita, I never had it either. But friends' children had it and instructions from the doctor were to allow how they felt to limit their activity. Some kids were out for the long haul and others not so long. Let's hope for a quick recovery. I've missed you. I was thinking you were probably traveling again. Don't you get sick!

Rita, poor you and your daughter. I hope she starts to feel better soon. You think when they grow up and leave home that you will have a peaceful life but then the grandchildren come along and get sick and it is you back to being a nurse again. Maybe when she has the energy, she might like to help you get the inspiration from the Red Fury quilt or the next one picked.

I never had Glandular Fever either but my niece did and she reckons she was not okay for about 2 years! Rosemary, I wish I could get her interested in any kind of craft but she doesn't go for anything like that at all. Doing makeup is her life and she can't do that at the moment. Maybe boredom will eventually convince her to help me with my hexi quilt.
I have had a good look at 'Red Fury' and I think I know what I would like to do with it. Now to try and draft out the idea before next Monday. :|

Thinking about this exercise brought a question to mind. Do we name our individual pieces? I'm guessing we do and that we put that name on the label, but just thought I'd verify. The name of the piece could influence the next quilter, but the quilt is serving as the influence so it seems okay for the name to influence, too. What do you guys think?

Rita, wishing your daughter a quick recovery. When I had glandular fever it was mistaken for the flu too, possibly because it was in my abdominal glands instead of my neck. I went to school the first day without telling my mom and even went to my after school job of ironing, but I had to quit early because I was having a hard time staying on my feet. I only missed a few days of school the first week and a half day the next week to go back to the doctor for more tests since it hadn't gone away. I don't know why they let me go to school. I remember at least 3 weeks of fever with it gradually going down over the weeks. I don't remember any lasting effects. My son got it the year he got married, a few months before the wedding, and my daughter got it from her toddler son (she thinks) who possibly got it from a child in the church nursery who had been sick. I don't remember them having any lasting effects either. So maybe your daughter will be back to normal soon.

Nancy, I'm not sure at all about the name of each individual quilt... When I read Red Fury in the "play session" that we are doing, I felt I was being influenced by the name even more than the picture (because the quilt was soooo abstract! and it could happen in the real challenge) and had to make a concerted effort to see what the picture was speaking to me. If, in the real challenge, the photo comes without caption, then it would make sense that the pieces are not named, but I'm really making all this up! I have no idea what the true intent was. It is, however, a great question, one that we might get some guidance on. But I have to say that I had to try hard to keep Red Fury, the title, out of my head as I was trying to interpret the actual quilt.
