Maureen flowers would be good on your indigo, would sort of mood would you go for?
Don't know yet. I will have to see what shades and patterns of Indigo I put together before I decide. I have put the multi-dyed fabric in a few of my pieces so far, so might keep to that theme and have the flowers multi-coloured (gold/orange/red :?: :?: )

Wendy, Your fabrics are beautiful. I am getting the bug, but I have got to finish my Laura Nowns samplers first. I am not one of those who will not start something until she completes the last one, far from it. But I do reach a tipping point where I need to see something finished.
Maureen, I am stumped with OH too. I am excited for you to begin the challenge. I have a question about the Whisper Quilts. I understand that we would not be permitted to say anything about the design, but can't we say things like I have look at the inspiration for a few days and I now have a design in mind, or I have chosen the fabric for my design? Maureen, I am excited for you. July is when my stint begins and it seems so very long away. I do think having that out there really is impetus for me to get some projects completed that have been hanging around for a while and to just keep busy with other projects. Last week I decided that I was going to look at pictures or quilts and practice creating in my mind a quilt that piece of work inspires. I've forgotten to do it already, but now I am reminded again.

There you go Wendy - easy wasn't it! and great fun too  you've got some nice pieces there.
My Dh sometimes refers to me as DB - Dearly Befuddled, but methinks that the boot is definitely on the other foot with that one!
Lois, I like your idea of practising thinking of how you would take a quilt and being inspired by it, we could practise the technique for little AAQI quilts (easier to finish than full sized pieces), in fact I think I might try it myself

Yes, Rosemary, that would be good to do it for AAQI quilts. But I was thinking of just letting your mind design things that aren't necessarily going to be made. I need to just go through the process of asking myself where would that photo or quilt inspire me to go. Practice not letting myself get stumped for ideas.Originally posted by PosyPThere you go Wendy - easy wasn't it! and great fun too  you've got some nice pieces there.

Love those fabrics, want me to go out and buy dyes.... But no, not allowed till next spring. Would actually be a great project for next spring when I plan to visit my parents in Canada. I know my mom would love to get in on the act, and there I would have SPACE! A garden hose for rinsing, and a washing machine to use whenever I need it.
Yup, think I just made that plan definite!
When I took my course last year they told us that it was really difficult to get really bright and true reds... They suggested doing two or three repeats on those, I.e. do the complete process three times starting with fresh dye each time. Most of the other colors were ok, but remember you can alway dye over a fabric you did not like. Or over a print you are not happy with, I have a heart print that I washed today and the red hearts really bled into the white background... Will rewash and then put in a hot pink dye bath... Think that would look great, even if the bleeding remains, it would make an interesting effect on the pink background, and my cousins daughter was lookin for a red and pink fabric, this might just be it! :0)Lotti, Kuessnacht - Switzerland

Beautiful fabric colors Wendy!!! Lots of fun and anticipation to see how they turn, isn't it? Great minds think alike  don't they?
I've been watching Laura and Frieda's lessons on fused appliqué and was thinking of using my hand dyes to work on one of those projects
. So now, what HU stands for?
Lois, what a great idea to start practicing on coming up with possible quilt designs from photos or other quilts. And also perhaps making some AAQI quilts like Rosemary suggests.
Got to love this forum! There's always great    to share and get.Lotti, Kuessnacht - Switzerland

Lois, as long as you are not giving away anything about the design or how you came by it or how you are going to make the CW quilt, I don’t see any problem in just saying you have a design in mind and have chosen the fabrics for it, you can’t really elaborate on that.Originally posted by loise98Maureen, I am stumped with OH too. I know it is going to be extremely hard for us all not to talk about the quilt on this and other forums but I am sure that after reading the rules (everyone please read them again and again especially before you start your challenge) everyone appreciates that it would spoil it for everyone else and the whole concept of the challenge and could possibly lead people into a design that is not their own idea hearing about how other people came to their design.
Like you, I have been trying to get things finished before the photo arrives but not everything is finished. I am going to a 4-day retreat near the end of the month but as two other people are in the challenge as well, I can’t take my CW quilt with me. I think, to be on the safe side, it is going to be a case of it only being worked on behind closed doors.

Here is an idea - how about we all go and look at quilt number 100 in the Quilt Gallery. Work on how we would take it for inspiration and then report back with our ideas/sketches next Monday 8 September. Maureen is exempt (unless she really wants to  ) and we will have design exercises that we can talk about after the design process has happened.

I really like your idea, Rosemary, because, prima facie, it does not appear to undermine the spirit of the agreement we made in adhering to the rules, yet gives us all an opportunity to play with the general principles of the challenge prior to our turn coming. It provides a really great lesson and we can all add to our experience with what we learn from each other. How do you feel about it, Leader Maureen?

I think it is a brilliant idea. It will get everyone’s creative juices running on something other than THE quilt. It will be very interesting seeing how everyone’s mind works, what directions they take and what colours they choose, how they came up with a design. AND we will be able to TALK about this one. Looking forward to this.
Two things Rosemary - you mean October 8th :?: and so we are all on the same page - are you thinking of page 942
Red Fury Quilt #: 1000100 Added on 01/02/2007:?: :?:
Or page 4 if you check the box - oldest first
