Happy anniversary Rita, I hope you and your dh had a lovely meal
What was yours - Irish whisky :?: :?: my father used to drink Cream of the Barley with a Guinness chaser. When we were young and had a cold he would give us a hot toddy - uck - that is probably why I can't stand the smell or taste of whiskey (Scottish spelling)

Charae, Welcome! All I got to say is the more the merrier. Your job can be whispering encouragement. Help us wait our turn. Help us hurry when it is our turn. We need you!Originally posted by clhdabbOoops, I'm not a whisperer and probably shouldn't be lurking on this topic, but.... how else would I find out it's Rita & Shaun's anniversary?? Happy Anniversary, Rita!!!
Rita and Shawn, Many happy returns of the day!

Many thanks, hic! dear friends.
ops: It was just the sauvignon blanc tonight. We had a lovely day pottering around in Dublin (and lamenting the fact that there is so little trace of the place where Handel's Messiah was first performed - such a missed opportunity.
) And this evening we had a meal at Gordon Ramsey's restaurant here in Enniskerry. Very nice meal, very nice company.
Maureen it's coming into 'Hot Toddy' weather hear again - the wind is whistling around the doors tonight. One of our neighbours still gives her children (all 10 of them  ) a hot rum if they are unwell. I don't think it does anything except put them to sleep swiftly.

Happy Anniversary, Rita and Shaun! Sorry I'm a little late at checking postings... Today was class with Gloria Loughman--so much material to cover and so little time. But she is a wonderful teacher and walks around and helps a lot interspersed with periods of short lecture to prepare us for the next step. Of course, we don't get to the next step but I am sure I will complete my quilt when I get home. I learned how to tile my sky with teeny rectangles (2"x 3/4") on a diagonal. Working the colors was probably the hardest part. Will post when it's done. Sorry, forgot to take pictures! Her books are so well laid out--having gone through them before class made it a lot easier, but with the book in hand, I am confident now that I can finish my quilt.

What a great opportunity Renata, I am so jealous. I loved her quilts and listening to her when she came to our Guild once, but to work with her must be so good. I gaze at her work and wonder how she has such an eye for colour and design. I think her book will be on my xmas wish list.

So glad you're having such a great time Renatta. Can't wait to see your quilt. I"m not familiar with her work but , looks really good on her website. I ordered her book Luminous Lndscapes yesterday and can't wait to get it in my hands. Maybe some day I'll have an opportunity to take one of her classes.

Congrats on the anniversary!
Maureen and I were emailing about the shipping overseas. She reminded me that both hers and Rosemary's HSTs took 4 weeks or more to get from here to the USA. I believe we had better luck with mailing the reels from the USA to me using my APO address. (Well one did take 4 weeks as it came by way of SriLanka.) The key mailings that are time sensitive are when Maureen mails to the USA and then the following Christmas when the finished quilt gets mailed back to the UK. We'll try this with Maureen's initially as she will mail it to me and I will mail it to USA. It is best to use priority mail for quickest service.
Other than those two time sensitve mailings, others may chose to mail to me or directly to Maureen. If it comes through me, you must double wrap the quilt. So I won't see it when I take it out of what you mail it in and put it into the mail to Maureen.

Sounds really interesting. She came to a Quilters Guild Regional Day here a few years and I was blown away by her quilts and how she was such a lovely person. Of course we all bought the books and some patterns but nothing has ever come it.Originally posted by RenataHappy Anniversary, Rita and Shaun! Renata, could you go back to page 11 (near the bottom) where I have put a couple of questions for everyone to answer before I send the entry form in and let me know your answer please.

As Lorna says we are trying to find the fastest and most cost effective way to get quilts back to me. I don’t know about Rosemary’s HST but mine left the UK inside 2 days but sat somewhere in the US for the remainder of the long long time.Originally posted by Lorna1021Congrats on the anniversary!

Lorna
I actually made another batch of them (640) to send in place of the lost ones when they arrived at Debbie’s. Maybe that is why I never finished my quilt, I was so sick of half square triangles.
As Lorna says, the quilts will have to be put in a sealed dark bag before it is put into the box to post to her so that she doesn’t see it as it would spoil it for her because she is the last one. You would have to send it to Lorna and then pay her for the container and postage from her to me, so in the end, it might work out cheaper to send directly to me. As long as the weight of the quilt is less than 2 Kg (approx 4.4 lbs) then postage here is not unreasonable. Over 2 Kg it gets quite expensive. We will try and work this out and let you know as soon as we can.

Maureen, once the show is over what happens with the quilts? I don't recall seen any information about it. I know some times quilts get auctioned or become part of a permanent exhibit .
just wondering if you'll have to mail them back, how will we send you the posting cost. Do you have a PayPal account? Now, if the get together in Scotland becomes a reality we can always bring them back home with us

On the posting front my hst's for sottts were sent in the 1st week of March and arrived the 9th April, the hats I made were sent 1 week after the hst's and arrived in about 10 days :?
I would imagine that the earlier quilts will be ok posting direct to Maureen, it is really the transits between members we need to worry about.
If Maureen doesn't have paypal, I do, so if necessary monies can be sent to me & I will forward a cheque.
