My biggest concern about my turn coming early next year was what might be happening at work. :? Our hospital had it's last Joint Commission accreditation survey in March of 2011. So I knew we could expect them in the Spring of 2014. Prepping for these inspections takes a lot of extra work. Well fortunately we just received word that they will be coming in November--about 5 weeks from now. So...whew! I won't have to worry about that interferring when it is my turn to create or with attending the show! 8)

It'll just be a bit hectic around here for the next several weeks. Unfortunately we've had some turn over of key staff members (like my Chief of Quality/Risk Management and Credentials Manager!) and don't have all the replacements yet. Civilian personnel is soooo slow. :x And the furloughs and potential shutdown are not making life any easier....

...but is is Saturday morning and I think I will go quilt!

Lorna, Good to hear about your change in the inspection schedule at work. Good for Chinese Whispers but sounds like it will be tough getting ready early with staff shortages and new personel. In the mean time, have a great day quilting.

Ditto. I am having a day sewing myself - and it's lovely. The sun is shining and there is no wind. I was looking at Bonnie Hunter's blog and she is at her Cabin where she is sewing on her treadle machine outside. That's what I would love to do - but I am still waiting for delivery of a leather belt for my machine. Sometimes living on a small island is a pain in the butt!

Wow that's interesting. It took me a bit to find it so here's the place if you want to see it Rita.

Thanks for the link Karen. Marilyn, I had seen that post before but completely forgotten about it. I am going to go and see if the nearest auto-parts shop has them. Thanks for the tip.

Well I got the tubing but couldn't get the connectors. I have called several motor factors and none of them has ever heard of 'shingle belting connectors'. However, DH is convinced he can make it work with duct tape so that is what we will try. Meanwhile, the belt I ordered came in the post this morning so it is now connected to Ruby and working perfectly. We will try the tubing idea later in the week on my grandmother's machine. Both the leather treadle belt and the electric motor belt broke on the same day. I managed to get a motor belt yesterday too which is good. It will be great to have both options working on both machines.

Rita, That is just so exciting. The "search for a treadle bug" has bitten me again. I've looked on ebay and Craigs list and have seen a few nice machines but I am not willing to buy one sight unseen even though there are pictures. I have to find one near enough so that I can make a road trip to test it out and pick it up. In this new phase of my search I have created an envelop where I stash a little bit of money now and then for this specific purchase. I am so eager to hear about and see the results of your adventures with Ruby. It's a great idea to have both options working on both machines.

Making me think about using my treadle again, but since it 'lives' under where my Janome is set up for working, and I currently don't easily have space to move things about at the moment - just a slight CW fabric explosion to contend with at the moment  - I think that I will have to put that idea on hold for a few more weeks.

I'm getting there - hope to get sandwiched by the end of the week....

Well isn't that how it works Rita? Just go buy the tubing and the belt shows up immediately!? I look forward to reading about your treadle adventures.

I'd like to hear more about Rita and Lois' treadle adventures too, especially Lois' in quest of one as now I'm thinking about it too but would not know where to start in terms of the questions I should be asking myself. Need to do a little more homework...

Sorry about the fabric explosion, Rosemary, hope it's resolved quickly and efficiently. But congratulations on almost being at the end of the Chinese Whispers road--sandwiched by this weekend, probably posted by the following weekend and then you can breathe... just in time to start your new job! Lots to be congratulated about!!! Is Izzy still giggling about your new start time at work or is she still laughing hard?

Renata you've forgotten about essing & quilting to go yet! but I am happy with how it is looking so far. Izzy is still sniggering about my new get up time when she remembers, but I don't care, Went in this morning to be shown the ropes - since the head of the workroom will be away next week for my official start date. I am feeling much happier in myself about being able to get away from the school & back to sewing properly, I've just got to start working on my times for jobs to get them back up to professional speeds again ie shorten a pair of jacket sleeves in about 45 minutes - that's smokin'!

You're getting on well with whispers Rosemary take your time

Rosemary, you'll be surprised at how fast CW will go on the down-slope. I'm sure you've got your nose to the grinder, as we navy folks like to say, and once you start ess'ing, you'll also start seeing the quilt in a different light, and as you quilt, your work will start taking on a life of its own and you'll just want to keep going because you'll be enjoying seeing the quilt truly come to life. I think where you are now in the process was probably where I truly enjoyed my CW experience most. Hope it's the same for you, it sounds like it! As for your job, I bet it's like riding a bike, you'll get your golden touch (and timing) back in the first week. Cheers!
