Margo and Shawn - just fabulous! Haven't decided what to do with my remaining HST's. I have about 300 left from my 618.

I posted this on another thread but since this one sez "what have you gotten sewn so far?" This is it. Still need to thread sketch the dog and quilt it.

SHAWN, I really like what you are doing with your HSTs. Love the X!

Jo Jo, it looks just as cute on this thread as on the other one!

        Thanks Dawn.

I had edited this post to repost a lighter version of the quilt and somehow I deleted the part about the dog. My girlfriend had to hand feed Cooper due to a tremendous overbite. The portrait is something I learned from Maria Elkins "Making Faces" video via Quilting Arts/Interweave. It's four shades of a hand-dyed fabric - pretty clever. Not ME! Maria

No sewing yet, unless you count the triangle that had 2 dark pieces on one side that I took apart and made into another block. All of my blocks are now squared and I have a cool bag of clippings that I will separate the paper from and put in a glass jar. This is one possibility for my 9 patch blocks. I will try not to make them too perfect. Since a lot of the HST's have a medium background I will place those through the center. My Golden Tickets will get scattered throughout the quilt as we are all equal in God's eye. I have one other leisure project that has to be finished before I start sewing on this one. My Cynthia England "Split Rail" has 20 more sections to sew. If I did a section every day it would get finished quickly but that's not likely to happen as I have way too many ideas brewing in my head and I've only completed 2 sections so far this year and I'd planned on finishing it last year. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful quilts everyone is making.

Annis, are these the ones you cut in half?

No, these are full size trimmed slightly to make them all even. I may cut the triangles from the batik exchange in half.

I like how you have put the one with the darker value in the center! Looks great!

                      Annis,

I love all of your tips! I am now trimming all of SOTTT HSTs, because I did not do that before I cut the batik HSTs down by 1/4, and they are not lining up very well, due to the different sizes! And, I don't know why I didn't think of taking the HSTs apart if there are two lights together and two mediums together, and just swap them to have two new HSTs with a light and medium. Makes so-o-o much sense! I'm not knocking those people who didn't have a high contrast, because I am sometimes guilty of focusing on color, and not paying enough attention to value. Looking forward to seeing your completed "Split Rail!"

I have been playing with the HSTs this weekend and have most of them pressed and about half have the papers removed and bunny ears clipped off. I plan to make the Tree of Life Quilt from Edyta's Friendship Triangle book. This is my first block. It is not sewn as I don't have a sewing machine at the moment (yearly checkup time). I made it completely scrappy--used whichever hst I picked out of the bin. I do have different browns for the tree trunks but will use the same fabric in all the blocks for the background. I think I like it.

Hello Everyone, All of you have inspired me to get busy. I finished 8 blocks for the Tree of Life wall hanging. I will sew the top together tonight or tomorrow. Then I will be ready to do the applique. I am so excited about doing that. You see Alex Anderson is coming to our area and is teaching a class on machine applique this Tuesday. I can't believe she is coming here. I live in a little town 6,000 people in central PA. Our local Bernina Dealer is sponsoring the class. We live 50 miles from the nearest airport and the Bernina Dealership is owned by a Mennonite Family and the store is way out of town and it is built right on their farm. I will try to take pictures for you. Now I have to figure out how to ad the picture of my blocks to this message. Debbie, I did just what you did and picked them out as they came out of the box in which I stored them. I used a variety of dark green and purple prints and batiks for the single triangles along the side of each tree. Lois Bruno

Lois --I really like the trees you have made and look forward to seeing the applique. How lucky you are to get to take a class from Alex. I am hoping she will teach somewhere close to me someday. I would love to take a class from her.
