Hey Rosemary! I just watched a fascinating article on the CBS Sunday Morning TV show about the Royal School of Needlework!! Amazing....and of course, I was thinking of you!!

Yep, The Royal School of Needlework is a place of pure distilled embroidery techniques and also amazing designs these days, (personally I think they hit a bit of the doldrums on the design side during the 1980's and early 1990's, but these days it is all fantastic) You can now do a degree course there. I remember when I was training (84-86) we were discussing about universities doing a degree course in embroidery where the students didn't even have to thread a needle and make anything to pass the course and all the apprentices' were disgusted with the idea, that we would finish with a 'lesser' qualification but far greater skills and hands on knowledge of the subject.

I just watched the same program. Impressive school. Neat! Beautiful work they do, i.e. did at the School! Glad you wised up & came over to quilting though! Hee. .hee....

Spending entirely too much time on this computer, apparently!! :lol:
I need to get in the sewing room and get it all straightened up in preparation for the arrival of my HSTs!! I've already cut the fabric that I'll use with them, and have made some pinwheels for the borders with my HSTs from the Batiks-R-Us exchange. I'm also exchanging HSTs with my local small group, so I'm going to be able to make a large quilt!

Currently they are in Hampton Court Palace. I left just as they moved there from 25 Princes Gate, South Kensington - which overlooked Hyde Park, one of the major parks in London, of which there are many; and was just up the road from the Victoria & Albert, Natural History & The Science Museums, and The Royal Albert Hall, one of our main concert halls in London. The whole area was developed to be seats of scientific and artistic endeavourand also includes the Imperial College, one of the top London universities. It was also close to Knightsbridge & Harrods - we used to refer to Harrods as the 'corner shop' :lol: and whenever anyone had a birthday, a couple of us would take money & orders and go to Harrods to buy Danish pastries for afternoon tea.

I got home late last night to find a package of HSTs in my mailbox! Woo hoo :!: :!: :!: I haven't had a chance to go through them all yet, but I can say for sure that it's better than Christmas! There is a big variety of colors and gobs of different tastes in fabric - I think it's going to make one spectacular quilt!!! As I looked through the fabrics, I thought Edyta was soooo right about the different ones being the jewels. In this case, I think my quilt is going to be filled with jewels; jewels in more ways than one. THANK YOU SOTTs, and especially to Debbie and Clara, SOOOOO MUCH for putting this together and for all the hard work that was put into the sorting. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Oh my goodness, I think I visited the Royal School at Princes Gate when you were there!!! With DH on business trip and I walked all over that area...V & A, Hyde Park, Knightsbridge and, of course, Harrods!! Was into needlepoint at the time and purchased a tapestry kit somewhere in Knightsbridge. I say "walked" as it was my first trip out of the US and was too scardy-cat to try the "tube" on my own...have since made three more trips and can manage quite well. Sorry I missed the CBS show this morning, but be assured that I will be up early and glued to the "telly" on the 29th!!Comment

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed seeing it. I kept trying to see if thay had any work in the huge (16'-20')frames they had when I was there, but they didn't have any large framed pieces on show. It is fasinating to see how the technique of blackwork has changed from it's original style of the tudor period to the early 1600s when it was first popular, to it's revival in the 20th century, through to now. Styalistically it has changed dramatically yet it is still all Blackwork!Comment

Hi, Debbie! I spent a good part of Sunday uploading photos of some of my quilts. Learned a lot about Photoshop and the TQS process to add pix to my profile. Now I just need to get a current mug shot to upload and I'm done for a while...until I get some of the Sue's dressed. I think I'm also going to have a lot of fun dressing Ricky as well :!: :!: :!: :lol: :lol: :lol:

8) 8) 8) Regarding my above comment about having fun dressing Ricky, :mrgreen: :lol: please go to the thread Margo set up for me called Shirley's Sunbonnet Sue's (for international Sue clothing ideas), and read the beginning comments Margo and I shared. I love Ricky's Rhapsody designs and want to miniaturize them so they would go up his jeans pant leg or on a vest! BTW, 4 of our SOTTT international sisters gave wonderful ideas for dressing my Sue blocks for each country! If you haven't done so, please go add your 2 cents worth ASAP. I'd love to have your input :!: :!: :!: I'd also like to hear from my American SOTTT sisters and brothers because I'm doing a special quilt of Sue's and Bill's/Sam's? for us as well. 8) 8) 8)Originally posted by PosyP
