I'm still working hard to get the smell out of this batch, so I hope my efforts will pay off. They were sprayed with HEAVY DUTY Febreze and aired outside for the whole day yesterday, then aired out again for a few hours again this morning,, and now they're on 'air' in my dryer with fabric sheets. That worked pretty well with the 700 I received a few weeks ago, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work this time too.

I'm sending one huge bear hug to Debbie and Clara for stepping up to the plate and volunteering their time to take on this fantastic HST exchange! You two gals from Texas know how to handle "big" projects. Debbie, you went beyond the call of volunteer duty by trying to remove the smoke odor from "700" HST's the first time...and to hear you are willing to do it again is unbelievable! God bless you! It's too bad that the instructions from the beginning haven't been read and paid attention to as well as they should have been. Each one of us in this exchange is responsible for reading "all" of them carefully and following them. Debbie and Clara are not responsible for correcting our mistakes...we are, ladies! As much as I wouldn't want to see those smoke-laden HST's returned to their creator, I have to agree that they should be. There are too many people with allergies, asthma, and other breathing issues who could be affected by the smoke.
I once received a thoughtful Christmas present from an employee which was a beautiful batch of homemade cookies...that smelled so badly from the smoker who made them that I had to toss them! Smokers, you have a right to smoke if you choose, but please be aware that we non-smokers have a right to refuse anything that wreaks of smoke odor!
If we all try to be more considerate of each other everyone can enjoy and reap the rewards that this fabulous triangle exchange has to offer! I my hat is off and I am bowing to Debbie and Clara for all that they have done so far for all of us!

Actually, they are filling up the bed and also making a second bed on the floor! I'll have to take a picture before I load them into the 'trash' bags! SoTTT's members...do I have your attention now....hmmmm...trash bags????

Smoking HST’s – I have a quilting friend who smokes – not inside her house but near an open patio door, in the garage, in the front yard and back yard. You can’t really smell the smoke in the house. And yet when she mails me quilt items the box releases strong cigarette odors when I open it. It takes a few days of airing before the odor is gone. I can only imagine what a couple of heavy smoking HSTs will do the other HST’s in the sort being put back into a ziplock bag for the fermenting trip to our mail boxes. Now my husband loves Febreze and I can’t stand it. It’s just more smell on top of bad smell. I wish we had thought of this issue at the beginning when the rules were being developed. I say thanks for playing and send them back with a mix of the extra HSTs that were sent.

Hmmm.. a mattress made of unmade quilts could be interesting. Bet one of the hst's would end up sticking in my ...ear. Seriously I would love to be there, it's going to be one of those occasions that those who are there will remember it for a loooong time and dine out on the tale too.

Smoking HST’s
Personally when we've had a party that included smokers I look for 'Neutragel' as it actually absorbs the smoke smell rather than trying to cover it over another synthetic perfume. Which reminds me Sodium Bicarbonate (Bicarbonate of Soda) is used to absorb smells, I wonder if it would help here?
