I will be going to Houston this year and would be interested in meeting my fellow sisters and brothers. TQS booth is a favorite spot for TQS members to meet and we could start there. Besides, Alex and Ricky will be there too and they are a part of this. Just a thought.

I am very fortunate to be so close to Houston and can go yearly. In fact my Mom and I have a tradition on going together on Sunday and spend the day together.

The "Meet & Greet" get togethers at the TQS book in Houston is awesome!! Be sure to be there at 1:00 every day that you are available in time for the group photo!!

We also have been meeting one evening for a dinner together. Maybe this year we will need to look for a larger space??? Wanda, are you up for this??? :wink:

When cut into fourths like this your units will measure 3/4" x 3/4" when finished! WONDERFUL DESIGN DAWN!

My sister (Dragonlady) and I went to Houston last year for the first time. We joined the forum about it and met up with lots of lovely TQS members, even going out to dinner on the Thursday night with a crowd of TQS’s which was great fun. It was an exhausting time but enjoyable time in Houston as we had a workshop nearly ever day. :lol:

After I got back home to Scotland I received word that my son had had an aneurysm and was in hospital down in England. He had to have an operation and 20 mns before that he had two more aneurysms and stopped breathing. They thought they had lost him but got him back, gave him an operation, put in a coma for a while to rest the brain. To cut a long story short, he is still in hospital and physically doing well but his brain has been damaged in two places and he has lost his short-term memory. He can talk, move his limbs but can’t do a lot of things, as he can’t remember how to do them. :cry:

Joining the Sisterhood has helped me a lot. It has kept me focused on doing something instead of sitting brooding as I live far away from him. I have had lots of laughs reading the forum, so thank you everyone (I hope I can call you friend) who is involved in this exchange. I have nearly finished my triangles and will be looking forward to the ones I get back which I am sure will be beautiful. Trouble is, I will then have to sew them all together which is going to take me forever. :lol: :lol:

Carol, you've been traveling around in my part of the world. I live in Iowa City. I'm glad you're BIL is doing well after surgery.
I have all my 1/2 square triangles labeled and ready to go - will mail them next week. My DD is currently living in the Netherlands so it'd be really fun to get a square from there but I'll be excited with whatever I end up with. Hope you all have a great weekend. Peg

A true miniature isn't just small pieces. You need to be able to view a photo of an entire miniature quilt and not be able to tell what size it is. It should look like an entire, full sized quilt. Just smaller.

If you do search on Amazon for books about miniature quilts you will have lots of choices, and most of them are just small pieces, but in my estimation the definitive authority is the AQS book:

If you click on the cover photo you can get a closer look at it. The quilt on the cover is by Judy Spiers and measures 20" x 20"!! :shock:

And if you ever get to the museum in Paducah, when you come into the viewing area for these quilts, you will just stand there and say "OH WOW!"

It's amazing what can be done with all the medical advancements and the great therapy that is available today. Hopefully each day will bring him another step toward getting out of the hospital and then back to a normal life. We are so happy to have you in the Sisterhood and it is wonderful to know that our Exchange is providing some well-deserved 'therapy' for you too. I bet when you have them returned to you, you'll be so excited with all the beautiful fabrics that you're going to want to jump right into that project.

I do not even know where to find the words to tell you all how I feel just realizing a few hours ago what you are up to! Sweet Bjoern thought someone died as I bursed into the "ugly-cry" reading an e-mail from Debbie telling me you are making HSTs on my behalf! Getting my face back where it is supposed to be I am still looking like I was dropped down from the moon! I am amazed, schocked, happy and soooooooo honored, more than I can tell using simple words! TQS-girls is the best group of girls ever! I hope I can give you all big hugs in Houston in Nov...if not I am sending viritual hugs to all of you...hoping you understand how greatful I am and how blessed I feel. I will make the real "Friendship quilt" thanks to all of you!!!!!!

I was so happy to hear that you are starting to get your new sewing room set up and hopefully getting everything back in order. You now need to start imagining what you're going to do with all the HST's come April...we'll be expecting to see pictures! Do you have any of Edyta's books or patterns yet?

Margo's description on miniatures is right on. Some of the miniatures I make are really just small quilts instead. The requirements for our Susan G. Komen silent auction quilts are at least nine 4" or smaller finished blocks or only 3" for the Pink Challenge. That's what got me doing miniatures. A true miniature would probably have blocks with 1/4" HST's but I think 3/8" to 1/2" is small enough. So after doing some of these blocks, 3/4" is quite easy for me. I have the book Paper-Pieced Mini Quilts but they have the appearance of being small quilts instead of true miniatures. Their was a video on miniatures recently. I believe the name of the book was Miniatures in Minutes. But it takes me more than minutes to make one of these quilts. Sometimes they take as long as making a larger quilt. You just save on fabric and the quilting is usually faster and easier because there isn't all of that bulk to put under the machine.
