What pattern are you planning to make with the HST ? ? ?
NOW that I have gotten involved with this exChange... I keep DREAMING of various quilt patterns. I do have and like Edyta's books..... but I am not much for TRADITIONAL pattern making .....
I like the cover quilt ..... but I have so many other patterns dancing in my head. Some traditional and some contemporary...Some from a published pattern / some quilts of my own design......
WHAT is your favorite pattern?
What triangle patterns are dancing in YOUR HEAD???

I am planning on going traditional way: I have pine tree pattern in my mind. Almost like the one in Edyta's paper package, but some HST's added, so one block would need 28 HST's. I am going to draw design so I can see how it looks. And then deside will I use it or not.

I was thinking of an "ocean waves" pattern. It has a little symbolism which I think will be very fitting for this HST exchange. The triangles idea has spread across the TQS family like a tidal wave. This HST exchange has rippled across each one of us who want to share a little bit of ourselves with each other. The HST will be come from across the Alantic and Pacific oceans. I just thought it would be neat to use the ocean waves patten to symbolism the joining of all of our friendships across the world. I am getting so excited to receive them. I have been working on more. I figure it is going to take about 1,500 to make this quilt. I am only going to get 700 back. I have about 540 more made and so I only have a few more to do and then I will be ready when the exchange triangles arrive. My setting squares and triangles will be in neutral tone-on-tone batiks. It will be a little contemporary with the fabric selection for a very traditional pattern. Here is a sample layout of what I have in mind.

Margo, WOW!!!! Yours is fantastic too. What a great idea to applique the lettering on the quilt!!! I am not the greatest at applique so I will probably just document the story about the quilt on the label on the back. This is going to be so fun. Does Edyta know what she started here? I am sure she will be amazed like we all are with the fun we are having!!! It is going to be fun to see what others come up with for designs. I saw a few were going to make clothing items. That will be really cool. I think a jacket would be wonderful using these HSTs. I don't know about the rest of you, but my mind is just swimming with ideas to use HSTs on.Originally posted by MargoOh Carol! I love your design!! I putzed around with this early in the week, but it only requires 420 HSTs, so I need to play some more!
The wide borders were to be filled with applique.
. Everyone be sure to share your ideas. It is going to be so fun to get sneak peaks at what everyone is invisioning!!!!

I love the book cover quilt and have been planning on that, but now with these new ideas....maybe I'll want to go with one of them. There are so many possiblities!! I'm so excited to get going. Have a blessed day. Our weather in Texas is perfect today!!!! I know many of you have had so much snow....those of us in Texas would like you to send some our way if possible. Our kids need to make a snowman and we need a snow day from school....I'm a 4th grade teacher, myself...love those snow days.

Oh, my gosh, you folks have big league plans. I just have little plans. I do a lot of children's quilts for charity and always need lots of variety, so my HSTs will be distributed among many different children's quilts. I kind of like the thought of fabric coming from everywhere being in the hands of some little ones. Who knows what magic it may bring into their lives.

I'm thinking of a sampler quilt for the big exchange and something else for the batiks. I looked in one of my block books for ideas last night. Maybe I will start with a larger block in the center and place smaller blocks around it. It could be called Friendship Circle, Circle of Friends, or something along that line.

Carol and Margo.....LOVE your ideas, but two designs that I've wanted to make for a long time are both in Edyta's book -
"Tree of Life" on p. 26 and "Delfina's Basket" on p. 36. The "Tree of Life" is a wallhanging size calling for 144 HSTs and since I'm exchanging 615, I'll be able to expand it to a new king-size quilt I've wanted to make for our bed (and then some
)!!! Also in the Batik exchange, so the 120 HSTs I'll make for that will be just right for "Delfina's Basket...although
think I'll change the name to "Baskets of Friendship" or "Friendship Baskets"????
I've finished the HSTs for SoTTT....so now I'd better get busy on the Batiks. This is all so fun!!!!
Have a great day,
Judy

I love the cover quilt too but also am leaning toward the tree (tree of life) as this exchange sure seems to have me excited. I work at a high school and we never get snow days! The rule is our school never closes (unless we are without water and electricity). We do have days when the busses cannot run so lots of rural students are absent but the school remains open for our urban students (about 2/3 of our student body). I live in a small rural town of 7000. We have had about 10 inches of snow (30 cm) since yesterday afternoon but living on the Canadian prairies that doesn't stop many people.Originally posted by Psalm103I love the book cover quilt and have been planning on that, but now with these new ideas....maybe I'll want to go with one of them. Thanks, Debbie. Wow!! 10 inches of snow on the Canadian prairies. So different from here!!! I believe we're in the seventies. The Super Bowl will be in out town next Sunday. We live about 5 min. from Cowboy stadium. I just got my triangle paper at the local quilt shop. I've been thinking about the tree of life quilt also. Perhaps as wall hangings so that I can give one to each of my grown daughters for their homes. Then we will all have fabric quilts from around the world.
Have a great day. Enjoy the snow.Deborah W

Louise that is a great idea. I am just thinking of using them on a special quilt I have in mind. No real idea yet... just dreaming about them.
