I'm so glad to see a happy ending to the ant saga! I had an inexpensive iron once that quite, and DH (mechanical engineer) could not even take it apart to check it out. So, I'm glad to hear the more expensive irons can be dismantled, if need be!

Margo, I thought you tossed those when we did the "Clean Your Sewing Room" challenges. So, you just MOVED them to another spot in your room! Caught 'ya!

Irons, like many other appliances, might have a fix if it is in the cord. Beyond that can get very dicey. Handyman hubby has had far too many appliances whose final home was his shop because they were left with the instructions "Fix it, please, if you can, otherwise please garbage it." Garbage didn't happen until we sold the premises and had to clean up and move.

No, Dawn, I threw away 3 steam irons that no longer worked. I saved the one dry iron that I thought I would try to have repaired, and about 2 weeks ago the dry iron I bought to replace the old one also quit working, so I now have 2 dry irons that don't work. What is it with me and irons??? I guess there is a reason you are not supposed to leave them on all day for weeks on end????

Do I dare admit that my quilting iron's date of birth was 1961, and (knock on wood) it's still going strong. Because of it's age, I always unplug it when it's not in use. The cord is actually made out of a cotton-type cord, which looks brand new still and it's a dry iron (so I don't have to worry about creepy crawlies getting stuck inside -- :P ). This iron gets HOTTER than (well you know), but works perfectly for quilting.

Now the we are on the subject of irons, has anyone had a problem with the smaller rowenta iron (travelling?) with purple pastic parts and handle? I have bought 2 and while the iron itself was great, the handles broke apart and now I can't pick the irons up.. I thought it was just me and that I was too rough on the first one, and bought another one. Same thing happened to the second iron. I lost the receipt so I can't take it back but if too many people have this problem pop up maybe Rowenta will fix the problem or recall the iron since the hot part falls on the table/floor when picked up. Anyone?
