    Delivery / Magazines

I just heard something "wonderful" (as many are waiting for the next issue of The Quilt Life) - Did you know that the post office can hang on to magazines (or other bulk mail) for up to 7 days. That is why you often get all your magazines on the same day. I am checking into this -

Well, that's just not right unless it specifically says do not deliver before a certain date. Cheryl

This is true. I think some of the time it's really up to the delivery person as to how much room they have for what on any particular day. We live in a rural area and our mailman drives a car.

this is getting more curious - i just called our delivery supervisor and she said that the most anything is delayed from our PO is one day - but we are not in the country - hey everyone - ask your post person and see what they say - (in a quilterly pretty please voice and friendly smile)

I got my copy on Wednesday, sometimes I feel like the PO does not delivery when the magazines come. :!: :!:

The subscribed mags over here usually arrive at least a day before general release. Some up to a week before. The joy of being a subscriber.

Not sure in scale about your US ones to here. I do know, however, that it is very, very common for US parcels (especially your national USPS ones) to arrive here to Royal Mail, sit around a bit, be allegedly delivered (check the tracking) sometimes twice and then be sent back to the US to have to go through the process again. They are supposed to go to Parcel Force and through Customs and then sent on at an extra whopping postal charge. Three of my last five parcels from US have gone through this palaver. Reading material is supposed to be VAT free I believe.

I think our Posties gain a little extra Pay if they are willing to tote around all the extra junk mail!

Alex, if you yell GO when you know the next Quilt Life is in the postal system, I'll let you know when it arrives!!! (You know it will be here in a flash!)

Years ago our substitute mailman was a friend of ours that filled in on Saturdays when needed. He said that they don't have to sort magazines everyday and especially on Saturdays kept the sorting short to be done early.

I got my new Quilt Life issue on Tuesday so saved it for my flight to & from Paducah on Thursday!! Got it autographed by Mr. Ricky Timms & all!!

Sigh....I still have not got mine! I had it very early with the first one. I guess they had to ship it on a boat to the island this time instead of on a truck across one of the two bridges! Sandi in FL

I know that it takes longer when stuff has to be forwarded. Plus if you don't personally notify your magazines, they're not sent on either.
When we had women in the local PO, some of my quilting magazines looked like they'd been read already.

I received this email from Ruth -

I just received my Monday mail (early today...) and I got my TQL in the mail today. I noticed it is mailed "Presort Standard" which is typical 'bulk' mail that publishers do when sending out lots of mail, all similar. So I looked up the code for you and this is what I found regarding standard presort mail:

"Standard Presort mailings typically take 5 to 15 business days to reach its destinations nationwide."

FYI: I got 3 magazines and 4 catalogs today, along with just junk mail flyers...no other first class mail... USPS is a funny thing.

Can't speak for the US, the Rest of the World, or any parts of the UK where the post code does not start with NG........... (my disclaimer )

Magazines from the US seem to take between 5 and 9 working days to reach me.

And: I noticed a definite change in the delivery pattern of mail to my address. It all started to happen about 8 months ago. I now never seem to get any mail at all on Wednesdays and Fridays (weird), and a lot of junk mail on Tuesdays. Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays seem to be 'normal'. Mmmmhhhh...... I'm never at home when 'Postman Pat' does his rounds so I can't waylay him and ask. But it does seem strange.

Amo, if you spend less that the equivalent of £18 (I think that's the stupidly low limit) your puchases from the US should go through just fine without any extra charges.

We may be lucky and get the magazine just before the bank holiday. That would be a really nice treat.

I discovered why I got two. One of my quiltin' buddies said to me today. I saw your question in Ricky's magazine. I had read the article about Elenore Burns but I didn't notice they had used my question. Now I know. Betty Ann
