Here we have a Shaggy cat (named after Scooby doo). She is sick right now. She is our first cat one of my patients wrote on her will "give Shaggy to Rachel's little boy Elijah" (hospice nurses can't accept presents, I thought I was safe) Then we rescued our collie Molly Collie Kitchen. Her previous owner had a rotwieller and a doberman and they weren't letting her eat. When we got her she was really sick and very underweight. Now she is our baby. One sleeps with Alex the other with Elijah. They sleep under the covers and all. They are our little girls.

That is funny we call Molly our mellon collie collie. She is so sweet. I have this friend that had a pug show up at her house one day. It was hurt bad and it looked like the dog from Men In Black. So she called it Frankie. Well 2years latter this farmer from about 3-4 miles down the road stopped in at her yard sale. The dog ran right up to him so happy he said "well hello Frankie". She was shocked. He tolded her he had looked for Frankie for months but just figured coyotes had gotten him. She offered to give him back but her kids started crying. The farmer brought his papers down later that day. Isn't it strange how things come full circle. Rachel

When I was a kid, a stray white cat showed up at my grandmother's farm. She said I could name the cat. I figured if you had a black cat you would call it Midnight, right!!! SOOOOO a white cat would of course be NOON. That became the cat's name. Later another cat appeared. Grandma was so happy with my naming skills that I was given the task of naming the new cat. Again SOOOOO easy. AFTERNOON. Made ya smile didn't I. Betty Ann in Florida

When I was little we were given a little long haired orange kitten by my aunt. We all agreed that her name, Ernie, just did not fit but could not come up with a name that suited. Then we caught her up on the counter eating a cream cheese bagel Dad had left there and she instantly became Bagel. Well, my aunt came and took the cat back a few months later, but within days another orange long haired cat showed up. It looked so much like Bagel we called our aunt to make sure she still had the cat, lol. Anyway that cat became Bagel II. That cat disappeared about a year or so later (as cats with "bad behavior" tended to do in our house  ) but a third cat - this one short haired but same color and markings - showed up and you guessed it, that one became Bagel III, lol.
We also had a cat once that I found on the golf course as a kitten. When I brought him to the car my mother said "Don't name him cause we are not keeping him!" We had that cat till the day he died 7 years later and I stayed true to my word - his name on all vet records was "Kitten".

I have a Godchild with severe CP. She had a cow named Steak, 2 pigs named Chops and Bacon (notice I said HAD). She also has 2 cats named Hairball and Furbag, a dog named Bandit (he takes off with everything), and a horse named Manure. I asked her why Manure, she told me she wasn't allowed to say the other word and that is all he does. She name these 2 old cats that her Gramma found Itchy and Scratchy. Did I mention that she is a very literal child. Rachel

When I was about 10, we went to my grandparents' farm and they had cows, pigs, chickens, and lots of "farm cats". My grandmother complained that one in particular was always underfoot causing her to trip over him.
Then my mom told me that if I could catch one of the cats, we could take it home! They were not friendly to strangers and I'm betting that she didn't think I could catch one. But, I really wanted a cat and so I hung out in the yard a lot. I finally caught one (guess which one) when he tried to slip through a fence and it slowed him down a bit. He was promptly named Underfoot and we took him home.

Yes, Eileen, it is funny that we switched to animals from husbands!
My Sheba Inu is also red...looks like a fox. I put a picture in my profile. For those of you who don't know the breed, they are related to Akitas only much smaller and shorter haired, I think. Beautiful faces........lovely markings.
I had never heard of the breed before we acquired Ken Shin from FreeCycle. He thinks I hung the moon. I guess they are kind of 'one man pets' and I'm the ONE! He is very skitterish, jumps at every loud noise or rapid movement. If left alone in the house he chews things. I'm glad he was raised using a crate and sees that as 'safe' because there is no way I could leave him alone. He follows me to every room I enter. Sleeps beside my living room chair. Or beside my sewing machine. Or outside in the garden.
And he's a great watchdog. Barks like crazy, but only when warranted. Sits on command - always!
Do hope he can learn to trust us eventually.
Lynn
