My poor, befuddled Hubby

He's been good about it all. Truly, he has. :wink:

He really hasn't even raised an eyebrow since January. That was the
last time he saw the dining room table. First it was just the
machine...then the mats and rotary cutters and a bit of fabric.

February saw almost daily packages of fabric arriving in the post. Dining room was no longer recognizable as such. Buffet full of china and crystal hidden behind a montain of cotton.

March (I think that's when I joined a paper-piecing group) brought piles of
foundation paper with odd geometric things printed on them.

By April, he started spending most of his time in his woodshop,
building a parquet table, that looked a lot like a Lone Star quilt.
He's bcome strangely obsessed with the project. Of course, I've been
very understanding...

But today, after he brought in the mail, I'm sure that when he phoned
me, I heard a slight bit of panic in his voice when he told me that a
little teeny-tiny quilt had been delivered to our house. LOL!!!!
I had received my first postcard from a postcard swap I joined.

My poor DH is thinking that quilts have taken over the world. :shock:

My Husband Mike is a long suffering quilter's spouse too! My favorite story on him was when we were visiting the museum in Paducha. He was far ahead of me but reading all the signs so as to become more knowlegable about my passion. He marched back across the museum floor, looked me straight in the eye and asked " Where is the ditch and why would you stich in it?" He got an explanation that was quite different from his vision of that term. Gota Love Um Betty Ann

my dh fusses about my quilting and that I do nothing but sew or chat - new quilt show addiction sorry Ricky I blame it all on you. when we are in. Texas I am able to keep my quilting supplies etc in my quilting/crafting room. Unfortunately in the summer when we live in out motorhome there is no designated quilt space, dh now says all he wants is a place to sit - well he really wants a neat motorhome with a clean floor and a wife who will sit outside with him SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO VOLUNTEER LET ME KNOW but since I am talking to quilters I am not too worried about being replaced and Billie, if you ever repeat this story to dh you will be instantly crossed off my good gal list. so be warned

My DH is generally understanding about my quilting things at home. On the road was another story.
I have a book that tells where quilt shops are, and plan my "potty stops" around them. At first DH would wait patiently in the car. Then once he followed me in, and lo and behold! he found something to use in his own hobby of making miniature ships (you know how we use unusual things in our hobby - he found magnifying glasses, heavy thread to use for ship lines, and I don't remember what else). After that he never minded making the stops!

Hubby is now oin his third "quilted" table.
unfortunately, he's yet to put the legs on the first one!! :? I can't even say anything about it, 'coz I haven't finished my first quilt yet...though I have finished several others.
Now we both have UFOs :roll:

Isn't it amazing how quilters often seem to find themselves married to men who are into either miniatures (mine is into model trains) or wood working (mine also does scroll saw work). I once was at a Woodcraft store with my Dh and ran into a lady there who was looking through a quilt book while her dh was shoppng. As we were talking several men approached, saw the book and commented that their wives also quilted. Even the owner came over and told us about the quilt his wife was working on 8) I've said ever since that if you ever combined a quilt shop and a woodworking/hobby shop under one roof it would be the buisiest shop anyone has ever seen 8)

About a year ago on this thread, I threatened to trade or sell dh off to anyone who would offer "anything" for him -- well we are in the motorhome again and it has been awfully cold and rainy whereever we have been so he is an inside kind of guy and driving me nuts. (It could be that I hate having someone looking over my shoulder when I do anything and miss my private sewing room and almost private computer room where he rarely enters)

BUT yesterday after driving almost an hour to take my Viking Sapphire in to have the needle threader put on (again - the first repair person didn't tighten it in place so it immediately fell off) and have it cleaned etc. Thought I would be able to get both machines cleaned while we waited but no luck but that is not why I started this story so back on track

We were in the shop and another woman came in all upset and being quite crabby. Dh offered to help her bring her machine in to the shop and as I was looking around he started talking quilts with her (who knew - he has learned something after all) Then he mentioned Ricky and TQS - the shop owner knew Ricky's name but not much else. The other woman knew about Alex but not Ricky. I listened in the background for a while and after the crabby woman was all smiles I jumped in and wrote down information about TQS (and of course my name and screen name etc. so she can list me if she joins - I really pushed the basic as a place to start so hopefully she will get hooked-

But after a year and a half of dh fussing about my "addiction to everything Ricky and TQS" I find out three things:

1. I guess he is glad my addiction isn't to something worse
2. He must be a little proud of the things I do to voluntarily mention that I am a quilter etc.
3. Maybe --- just maybe ---- there is a chance he would drive the motorhome to La Veta for a taping or if by some miracle I get accepted for retreat. (cross your fingers gals it is possible that yesterday was an alien dh day and things will change again tomorrow)

My hubby is a wood worker also. He made me this great cutting table that is two bookshelves back to back. Then it has a top that goes on top that is a frame for my 38 x 70 mat that I bought in Houston. I have boxes of WIPs on the shelves. Then he put a small shelf on one end for my sewing machine so I have a long expanse for the quilt to lay on.
He also knows a lot about quilts. When we walk around Houston, he asks a lot of questions. He and my dad both white glove in Houston. He pays attention when the quilters talk about their quilts so he can share with people walking by. One year I was taking classes but had had back surgery 3 weeks earlier so he came and cut fabric for me. He learned a lot during that class.
When he helped white glove the first local show I had quilts in, he worked near one of mine and I had a lot of ladies come where I was and tell me he was bragging about me. In 2006 I was one of the show chairs for the show and he was hanging/takedown chair. He spent the whole weekend at the show helping wherever we needed him. We're doing it again this year. I know I'm a real lucky quilter.

Frances, I thought MY dh was supportive, but yours is really out there! My dh is also a wood worker, and we totally relate as our two passions have a lot in common. For instance, measure twice, cut once (which I've intentionally reversed for my TQS Member Blog title. ) He loves it if he can make me something useful for quilting. Before I bought my Bernina, I started out with a small Elna which didn't have an extension - just a small working area. So he fashioned an extension table out of a formica-covered board (used in shelving) that worked really slick. More recently, he built a design wall out of PVC pipe that stands alone, and can be broken down to carry to retreats, etc. I posted pix of it on my blog, if you're interested in seeing it. I try to give him opportunities to be a part of my passion - otherwise, he feels left out! 8)
