    Amish Quilts

Kalona, Iowa: Went here while traveling in May. Quaint town with a wonderful quilt museum. Half of it is dedicated to Amish quilts and the other half to "English" quilts. (English refers to non-Amish folks.) It is well worth the stop. Kalona also has the largest Amish population west of the Mississippi River. Kalona is slightly southwest of Iowa City, Iowa, and south of Interstate 80. There is a homemade noodle factory, a cheese factory, and two great quilt shops. They also have Quilt Barn tours. (My husband enjoyed the Quilt Barn tours best.) Enjoy! PS: Their big quilt show and sale is in April of each year.

Just returned from Lancaster Co. Pa and got my fill of Amish quilts at the Quilt Museum in
The Old Country Store. This in my opinion is quilt heaven. Love the solid fabrics, the colors,
and most of all the workmanship. Every quilter should visit! Dot

Love Kalona!!!!! I've been to the Kalona Quilt Show several times. They have some amazing quilts. You walk in the door and your jaw just drops. My daughter loves to see the horse and buggies. Lived in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids all my life and don't get to Kalona as regularly as I should.

Well, all of us who live too far away could start haunting Alex and Ricky and beg them to take TQS on a road trip with a heavy Amish Quilts emphasis........ YOHOOOOO, Alex, are you listening??!

Amish quilts are also a favorite of mine. I have visited Lancaster, PA every year for the last 8 years. I enjoy the people and the inspiration. I feel like I come home with a renewed outlook on life. And the quilts that evolve from those trips remind you of those feelings.

Me too! Also, would Alex and Ricky mind taking a road (boat/plane) trip to Hawaii? I'm also fascinated by Hawaiian quilts.

I would be willing to volunteer and be the roving reporter for the Hawaiian quilt segment. Its a bit of a boat ride from FL, but I think I would get there eventually. Sandi

I have one of Nancy Chong's videos on how to make a Hawaiian quilt, which is inspiring. This is on my to do list. I have a pattern picked out, the plan of the quilt, the color scheme! Now I just need the time to do that. I, too would love to see an episode on Hawaiian quilting. Kathy
